One of my students works for a company that was bidding a contract that required a specific fuel. The fuel is culled Propel and is similar to biodiesel but meets the ASTM D975 specification, which is the same as number 2 diesel. I checked it out and filled up with 24 gallons a few days ago. The cetane rating is 65 + and it has a noticeable reduction in engine rattling especially up near 3000 RPM before it makes a shift. I've only got about 60 miles on that tank so I can't say the fuel economy is any different but engine noise is certainly drastically reduced. It was $0.10 per gallon higher than diesel in my case $3.69 vs $3.59 per gallon

I run Stanadyne summer formula year round. The injectors are noticeably quieter. I don’t think it makes much difference in mileage. This is a late 3rd gen truck.

I use it periodically. It has near zero smell and does yield a noticeably quieter engine. My fuel economy is slightly lower with it.
The attendant said he sells it all day. It is about a dime more expensive.
My only concern is if it has the scouring property like biodiesel.
Here's a link for a company making great strides in making diesel and natural gas out of plastic.
