I know they provide the cheap oil changes so they can make money on the sale of additional service. But to recommend I replace my air filter at 15K miles is way, way out of line. Talk about loss of creditability (not that they had any to begin with). I explained to them that the filter minder was used to determine the need to replace the air filter and that in most trucks the OEM filter would last around 70K miles before it needed to be replaced. I guess I need to start dressing better and shaving before I take my truck in next time, so they won't think I'm a MORAN!!!

If you think a "mechanic" is servicing your truck at the dealer you've got another thing coming. Most often it's the lot boy doing the low tech jobs, you know the same high school dropout who scratches up your paint and gets behind the wheel with a glob of grease on his pants...

Hope this doesn't come off the wrong way but here goes,

the number one reason people have to replace their turbos is the filterminder. We see turbos come in quite often with damage caused by the air filter being dirty and the the filterminder never moved. A diesel uses about 4 times the amount of air a gas engine does please keep that in mind.

thanks

I say ,inspect the air filter and the filter box and hoses regulary. I ck. mine every oil change. If you read the last TDR magazine about the I million mile truck you would have noted that they cleaned the K&N air filter every 50K miles and had to replace the engine at 750K miles due to dirt ingestation into the engine intake. They said there was a hole in the intake hose. If they had inspected and serviced their air filtration system regulary, their old Cummins would most likely have made 1 million miles. I won't trust my Cummins lungs on a 2 bit air filter minder.

I know what you mean but it's not a problem with me. I will have the Dodge Dealer perform all of the required maintenance to keep the warranty in place. I will drive it for 5 years under warranty and then I will get a new truck. If the Dealer screws anything up they will have to fix it, since it will be under warranty and they will be the only ones that ever touched it, (during my ownership period). I hope I can make it 5 years and 80K-90K miles. I've never driven one vehicle that long. :D
