Wowser--just a trip to read this thread and all this brain energy going off. No wonder we win wars! I just need a mechanical idle adjustment (the kind that screws up in the cab and quick releases) like we had in the 60's dumptrucks. I will hook it to the end of my gas pedal cable. Anybody seen these anywhere? I might use it for a cheap cruise control too. George

Oh, one more thing on Dodges not being tow trucks. That was an accurate observation. I road in a Chev tow truck with an old timer (75 years and 50 as a tow truck operator) as we hauled my fryed 6. 5 from Montana to WA last winter. Talking trucks all the way. He said that Dodge frames were too weak to be tow trucks. Maybe that changes with 2003's. Little off topic here. ssorryyy. George

Another good place to look for information on dodge pto applications. would be Cable tv,telephone companies, electric companies, tree trimming services,And gas companies. As they all use pto driven implements, and a lot of them run Dodge Diesels. My cousin works for the phone company. So I`ll check with him,and find out who services their trucks. Hopfully we can get this figured out soon.

Well

There are other ways to get "pto" power on a truck You could use a clutch pump, most of the At&t trucks use a battery operated motor pump combo OR a seperate engine/pump combo (im guessing so they can transfer the lift/body onto another truck when the original truck is time to retire)I have seen dodge reckers but I have never seen one work up close to tell if they have high idle or not ?

Well I don't think that you do, I don't think that the 100 pin ECM will get along with the dodge PCM. so that would effect lots of stuff you would "want" to have... . The gauges, ABS, AIRbag's, charging system, the transmission if an Automatic etc..... I have the Cummins people looking up the cost of the wiring harness for the engine I will post the bad news on the price when they "give it to me" :)

Guages, air bag ,abs who wants that crap I WANT HIGH IDLE!

good points though:D

Dodge Wrecker

I have seen one! It's in Essex Vermont where I used to live before HELL froze over and I got laid... . off.

I don't know what he has for PTO stuff but if someone is up that way it's in the Essex, Williston area.

:--) Looks like the thread's getting terribly lost on this. . must be the holiday weekend ... . Dodge bashing??? Not here!!!!!!!!1

Just in case some of you aren't aware of this, Practical Solutions does make a High-Idle controller for our trucks. It's fully electronic and you can adjust it from idle up to 1500 rpm. They had a deal going at one time for TDR members and I think it was about $40/50 off of the list price. Someone had at one time posted instructions on how to do it yourself.

Well just got back from my local cummins garage, very bad news, the ecm on our trucks do not have the pto programming in them. The tech used the inline 2 connector and tapped in to data connector (triangular 2 wire connector with power connector attached, gray in color) located in main wiring harness down by timing cover, should be exposed and hanging loose. He used a desktop computer and insite, inspec software to access the ecm. If you had the pto software it will be found in the section titled adjustments and parameters, from there they active it and make all the adjustments as per the operator. He showed what it looks like on a training simulator they have, lots very useful features if you have the right ecm,he also told me I could upgrade my ecm to have the above mentioned features for a very pricey $3000 CDn but said it probably would not communicate with dodge pcm. To expensive of an experiment for me... ... The tech did provide me with a printout of all my engine part # associated with cpl # for cross reference if Iwanted to up-rate the hp of my isb. I did however acquire the incal calibration CD has some useful information on it. Not sure how to post the files as attachments.

Looks like were back to sq one again... ... ... .

Doesn't this solve out issue then if in fact the Transfer case is ready to accept a shaft?

well, I guess a brick on the go pedal is cheaper than 200 bux for another add-on box. . Figured it would be alot easier( or practical) going the electronic way with the existing equipment. .

Any update on this? After all it is listed in my manuals for a 2001 dodge. guess I will have to try my diesel shop.

High-idle already in-use

I don't know if this helps or not but here in Alaska, the dealership installs a high-idle switch on all the diesel trucks they sell. I had one on my '99 auto, and I'm scheduled to have on installed on my new ETH/DEE. The price is $425, but I'm certain most of that is dealer profit, as the parts from my previous install cost less than $30 at Radio-Shack. If I remember correctly, the switch on the '99 was operated off the cruise-control servo. I'm not certain how they intend to install the new one.

I don't have a digital camera, and I'm not very good with electronics (they hurt... bad distributor cap experience once) but I can try to describe what I see after it gets installed next week. There's got to be other members up this way who already have high-idle switches installed. How about it JR? Do you use high idle in Anchorage?

This seems pretty stupid to me, there are three PTO covers on my truck that are worthless because no "engineer" at DC thought to incorporate the software even though they have a PTO enable wire in the wiring harness.

Doesnt Often Deliver Good Engineering How true it is.

Well, I got tired of waiting for everyone to find out about this PTO thing so I took the plunge... . I contacted Practical Solutions and ordered thier product. For what it would cost for parts and to go to the dealer for additional programming the $159 for thier product is well worth it.

It looks great and works great. Took me all but 15 minutes to install, with no cutting or splicing involved. Their product hooks up the the TPS sensor and must modify the signal somehow as the unit does not require any additional power or grounding. I just plugged the one connector into the TPS sensor and the old connector into their supplied connector and that was it. The nice thing about this unit is that you can actually vary the idle up to 1550 RPMs using the supplied dial.

PS suggests mounting the unit on the steering column, but I like stealth installs, so I mounted mine in the ash tray (I don't smoke!, I leave that up to the truck... ) It fits in there real nice, I just drilled a 1/2" hole in the back of the tray for the cable to run out so it did not bind when closing the tray.

(I don't work for PS, but I will definetely purchase from them again. I got EXCELLENT service and very fast shipping. )

I don't recall anything stirring up the board as much as this topic has. 10 pages on this thread so far! Some genius just HAS to come up with something here.

For the record, I use my Truck Club, rested against the acc. pedal and against the edge of the front seat!:D Press is down a little and it holds 1,000 rpm perfectly while I go inside and do whatever I need.

But that Truck Club has been educated! Before the CTD, I used it in my '54 Chebby 3/4 ton, (restored by me). On long trips I used the Club as a Cruise Control on the Chebby!:D I'd tape one end to the accelerator pedal and hold the other end with my right hand! Worked great!
