Truck is in sig... . Well my clutch has been slipping for the past 2 weeks, but it only does it in 5 gear. ?Thats the only time i can get it to slip. Take for instance there was a guy at the gas station when i was filling up said his new 6. 0 would walk all over my dodge so i said ok lets go. . We went out to a spot in the country lined em up i launched in 4high never felt the clutch slip one bit. . oh yah i won :):)

So today when i went out i tried to get it to slip by taking off and mashing on the brakes and gas at the same time in third gear and all it did was build about 40psi and lug it down "was in 4low"

Any ideas on what's going on??

Got an estimate on a new mcleoud steel disc w/ new fly wheel 1800 pluss another 850 for bigger input shaft

thanx in advance

I'd look real hard at a Southbend. 13" Con OFE or FE should be okay. You can also order the 1 3/8" input shaft for the NV4500 from SBC. Be sure to ask for Peter and tell him you're a TDR member.

The big question is what do you plan on doing with your truck, that will make as much difference as anything. For the same money you can get a Mitchell Pulling clutch, but if you don't pull then you can go with something else

SBC IMHO

Mine did the same. When empty it would only slip in 4th and 5th. Put a trailer and a load on and I could make it slip on demand.

Installed a SBC Con OFE 5 days ago. Have about 200 miles on the new one and love it. Pulled a 3000 lbs load the other day to see how backing up with the new clutch would be, no problems.

I would talk with Peter or Andy at SouthBend, the guys real know their stuff. And I beleive they may be a little cheaper (surprised).

PS SOP. not associated with SBC, just a happy camper.

I tow a 7k load often during the summer "old tractor to shows"

I may pull "truck pull 3-4 times per year"Future plans for the truck are a 6 inch lift w/ a set of 38 Swampers and a drag comp and more fuel

I would think SBC would be just fine. Also, I'm pretty sure it would be less money than the Mitchell clutch.

Is it a perty straight forward install. ?I"ve installed many a clutches in mustangs and other rwd vehicles. I have a lift and trans jack

Installed mine myself

Bribe a friend, I did the install myself (buck 70 soakin' wet) and it was a 5 hour rodeo.

The trans jack I have is some what of the heavy duty type, but I don't think it could take too much more of the transmission / t-case combo (mines and 4 x 4 SWB). Man that thing is a pig.

The rest of the job is simple as pie. Have to stay dodge did a good job with make thing fairly easy to get at.

Cross member is a little tricky, it's tapered top to bottom so you have to push it up toward the floor pan and I slid mine forward, toward the engine.

If you have any leaks (rear main) or have the 5 speed (5th gear nut) this a REALLY good time to get them taken care of.

I think removing the gear shift was the biggest pain next to dealing with 500 lbs of hate and discontent (well it felt like 500 lbs. )

PS The kit from SBC is pretty nice too. If you go with the 13" HO clutch (same as mine) you will get a resurfaced and drilled flywheel. You will probably have to return your old flywheel as a core. The flywheel will have been drilled to accept both the old pressure plate and the larger 13" pressure plate.

Is the nut a simple fix or will i have to take it somewhere? And also what did ur clutch combo run ya?thanx for the help

I just installed a South Bend FE on staurday and I really like it. Oo. Like I seen mentioned on here in other posts it just depends on how far you want to go. Definetly give Peter a call and see what his inputs are on the situation. Hes got good info and will help you make a choice.

Hey just for the info if you have a port-a-power and jack ram attachment you can spred the frame rails and it makes gettin the crossmember out really easy.

JCarrell,

Price, call Peter. But the price should be the same whether you buy it from SBC or a distributor you'll just save on the shipping. I bought my from a local shop, they asked for a $400. 00 core charge on the flywheel, this to insure you bring your core in.

5th gear nut I got from the local dealer (real cheap compared to the clutch) and following the advice from another local TDR member bought the special tool. There is a TSB you can look up. The kit came with instructions and you need to put 280 ft/lbs on the nut.

Simple

Call SBC, talk to Peter, tell him what you want to do with your truck, and what you want to add down the road, buy the clutch he recommends. D :D

You can't beat the service and knowledge from South Bend!!!

Kyle

PS I got their 13"OFE:D :D

South Bend Clutch

And do the upgrade to 13". Be SURE to tell Peter if you are going to change the input shaft size. They make the 13" with for both input shafts.

I put the 12. 25 OFE in and it's great, but I wish that I had done the upgrade. Maybe twin discs next time. :D
