Cntramatric wheel balancer issue?

I just took off my 2 inch level kit, re aligned and put on 19.5 rims with the 300-318 centramatic balancers. I am getting a front steering wheel movement side to side and wobble. I understand that this model is for the dodges and has 6 oz in it. Given the recent alignment and only change the tires/balancers is it possible 6 oz just not enough and I need to go balance tires or use beads with more load.

I am calling the company tomorrow but has anyone else experienced this.

No i thought the whole idea is that you dont need to balance

I believe I had 10oz of balance beads in my 245/75R19.5’s, which put the beads much further out so they have a bigger effect per oz.

Are you sure it’s only 6oz?

I run them and have always have my tires balanced. I look at it by doing this the centramatic balances are additional insurance having a smooth ride and longer tire life.

I run them on my 5th wheel and ran them on my 05 for a short time. I didn’t do any tire balancing and they worked great. Sold them before the 19.5’s got balanced thou.

Side to side doesn’t sound like tire balance, as tire balance issues are vertical.

Side to side seems more like an alignment issue.

Or, a bad tire or wheel. I’d suggest spinning them and watch for run out.

I considered beads and balancers but decided since the Alcoa wheels were new the weights should stay stuck so hat is what I did. No real way to tell on a RV what works best.

These tires weigh 65#.

On Centramatics site they say that the Ram's use 400-408 steer and 400-409 drive unless you're SRW or 2019 and newer. Not sure what your truck is since not stated or in signature line. Like BigPapa said, could be bad tire. Are the front end components in good shape? this can cause issues as well. Good luck with the diagnosis.

Question for you all. My Vision rims require a shank style lug. Are the lugs on my 2017 3500 SRW this style? My rims didnt come with new lugs

No, the OEM lug nuts are cone style. I had to get new lug nuts when I ran 19.5’s, but I don’t recall them being shank style, just deeper.

Don’t use the OEM lug nuts, you could ruin the wheels if shank lug nuts are required. You could also get the wheel installed off center.

OK, called Vision wheels, the HD81A SRW use conical the dully uses shank. I guess I can also pull one off and look to see how the hole is cut as well.

Incorrect lug nuts can be disastrous. For instance, I put a set of C-3 Corvette wheels on my daughter’s S10. I was given a part number for a lug nut by a fellow S10 forum member. My daughter said one of her wheels was rubbing, making a grinding sound. I checked clearances and made sure the lug nuts were tight. She came in a few days later saying it was doing it again. When I went to pull one of the wheels I found it like this.

I finally figured out that the shank on the lug nut was too long, bottoming out on the drums and rotors before getting tight on the wheel and the movement of the loose wheels would loosen the lug nuts to the point of backing totally off as seen above. I found the correct lug nuts with a shorter shank and never had another problem.

Got two different answers from Vision. One was conical was for the smaller rims but 19.5 need shank. Summit racing doesnt have shank dimensions so still trying to figure out what to buy

Summit shows that wheel (81A) uses a 60 degree, conical nut. Who mounted them on the truck? Can't you see what it uses/needs by looking at them? Are they hub centric or stud centric?

I have a set of 19.5 Vision Heavy Haulers that I ran for a couple years on my 2020 3500 srw. The wheels are lug centric. They use conical nuts, and on my Ram, I had to buy all new nuts because the studs on the Ram are longer than the studs on the Chevy that the wheels & lug nuts came off of. The Chevy lug nuts were the correct thread, but the nuts bottomed out on the studs before the wheels were tight.

Are your nuts only contacting the dark area of the hole where the RED arrow is pointing? Those holes look like they're for a shanked nut. Is the surface where the YELLOW arrow is pointing flat? It looks like where the washers on a shanked nut would sit.

Those look they are machined for 60° conical lug nuts.

Red arrow. If you look at the picture of the lug nuts, they contact on the taper. The don’t have a flat surface that would contact where the yellow arrow is pointing.
