Which box is least prone to throw codes, VA3. 2, Edge J/A, TST R-49?

I am beginning to weaken and consider risking my warranty, but I DON'T want to eff around checking and clearing codes. Stacking is out of the question for my purposes.

Thanks,

Tom

Correct me if I'm wrong boys (I know you will!) but IMHO I think the TST will be the most "code prone" due to the aggressive nature of it's programming... .

The way it was explained to me is that the TST controls the injectors, and lets the ECM think the motor is running the way the ECM tells it to. I believe the only way to find out that someone has been running the TST is to look at the consistent max boost readings. Other than that, the TST will leave no traces. That is, unless you're running it hard when cold, which will get you some codes.

I would say that boxes that "fool" the ecm into stretching duration, altering rail pressure, or advancing timing will be much easier to trace by a competent tech.

The TST isn't the quickest install, but I think it's the best box out there.

You can't deny that the Juice/Attitude is sweet. It has nice bells and whistles like slip detection and fueling cutback until the truck warms up. But for your purposes I think the TST will serve you better, plus allow you room to grow. As long as you don't melt your motor, and you pull the harness prior to warranty work you should be fine. The TST R49 does have EGT based defueling, as well as a boost limiter (plus the cool-down function is really cool).

Boxes/Downloaders tried and code results.

Dr Performance Stage II -- No Codes (Did not like the way it made truck run at all)

Juice/Attitude -- No Codes

Edge EZ -- No Codes

Hot Juice/Attitude -- No Codes

Quad XZillaraider Race -- No Codes

BD Triple Dog Codes P0088

TST R49 w/Twins Programming - P0088/P0336 often.

For a conservative, consistent, smooth performance mod I would recommend the Juice/Attitude. But as you can see above I did not have any real trouble with any of them. The TST and my mods are just prone to a code now and then. I just clear them and go on.

I'm considering the VA3. 2, and would like to hear from those who have it if they've seen any codes being thrown by this box. Thanks in advance for the help!

Steve

I wonder...

What's more important? A few codes here and there that can easily be cleared, or a clear footprint that can be traced by a good tech?

Doesn't matter to me either way, as my warranty is clearly shot. Just asking the question.

I think a code-free box is a good thing, and if Edge had their J/A available when I first got into the performance thing, I'd probably have one. But now I have the TST and can't see how anything else can be better, especially if you do have a warranty to worry about.

Good info. Do you feel the code problem you have with the TST is stack related? Have you run it by itself?
