I have a stage 2 ATS transmission with the 5 star converter and so far am VERY pleased with it. Cooler temperatures were here this morning and when I pulled the truck into drive this morning it stalled and killed the engine. This went on to the third time when I finally had to give a little bit of throttle to get it going. This has happened a few times on cold mornings over the last few weeks. Any ideas what I could do to help this situation.

Thanks

Craig

I have an ATS with the five star converter on my 12 valve. I too am happy with it. The converter is VERY tight, but it appears you have enough modifications to support it. I'm not sure about the 24 valves but the 12 valves need to have their idle adjusted every so often. Do you have an adjustable lockup controller?

NOpe

No lockup controller here. When I shift from reverse to drive (in any temps) I end up having to go to neutral, let the motor go to idle, and then into gear or it will generally kill the engine. If it were just a BIT less tight, I think it would be just perfect for me.

I would give ATS a call and see what they say. They may have run into the same problem in the past. Maybe it's a common problem with an easy fix. Please keep us informed.

When I bought my ATS it did the same exact thing. Nothing wrong with the transmission, that 5-Star is EXTREMELY tight. You will eventually get used to bumping the throttle a little when putting into gear. Usually a slight nudge is all that will be needed to keep the engine running while not stalling it. I hope your 5-Star lasts longer than mine did. I put the TC and VB upgrade into a 100k trans so I had no leg to stand on when it failed. The transmission proved good by a competent shop so I went for it... ... ... failed after 20k miles on the ATS upgrade. Funny thing was... ... it was the TC that failed, the transmission was fine according to my installer of my new transmission. Again... ... . take that info for what it is worth!!!!

Anyway... ... ... my transmission did the same exact thing. According to ATS, the addition of bigger injectors exaggerates the condition. I wouldn't worry about it, you will get used to it!!

I actually have the full transmission with converter from ats. Hopefully all will go well. Maybe plugging it up in the morning will help some too.
