Would this mirror upgrade work on this truck?

I prefill my filter, always have. Cummins even thinks it should be. So I don't have any oil spilled going from the top.

Different stroke for different folks!

The cap worked for me, too. I previously tried a freezer ziplock bag and I have tried Press n Seal. The ziplock snagged and sprung a leak. Press n Seal was difficult and still had some spillage. The cap worked as advertised.

On the subject of which filter to use, I have seen no comparisons between the Fleetguard LF16035 and the Carquest/Baldwin BD7317 that we have seen so many post about recently. I would like to see some independent data (or non-independent data, though that would be less desirable) or anything that compares the Baldwin to the LF16035. How do we know it is better? The 16035 is the filter of choice; it is the one to beat.

Having an aircraft background, we always cut and inspect the filters on our aircraft engines, so. I have done this also for years on my car/truck filters at oil /filter change and I can assure that the NAPA gold is not the same media as the stratapore Fleetguard. I use NAPA Gold at times on some of my gas rigs and have once or twice on the Cummins when did not have the Fleetguard, but usually change that one out when the Fleetguard comes form Geno's.

Correct me if I am wrong. But I think the fleetguard stratopore is a proprietary design where they produce their own filter media that is patented.

So, I actually doubt that any of the media in the competitor's filters are exactly the same.

Even the mopar filters (none of them) use the same media. You have to buy the Fleetguard Stratapore to get the filter that is recommended by the manufacturer.

I haven't always used the fleetguard. I've been using everything from fleetguard to Mopar to Wix. But I after I use up the old ones, I am going to specifically buy the LF16035.

Good discussion! I didn't realize until now that the mopar ones are not made by fleetguard unless someone can prove otherwise.

Oops. I meant they're not the stratapore.

Some have guessed on other forums that they are wix, or hastings or purolator. But they do look more like the LG3972's. The purolator and wix take a different cap wrench.

So the filter that comes on the Cummins 6.7 from the factory is or is not a Stratapore?

Doesn't appear to be strarapore. Thst's why Snoking's cross reference showed it's the LF 3972 ( or is it LG 3972)..... the non stratapore filter. Apparently you don't need the stratapore to preserve warranty. But the stratapore is a better filter offered by Cummins.

Cummins says they've offered stratapore filters since the 1990's. But i think they started with their larger engines. Then sometime later offered stratapore for the 5.9/6.7?

I also run a BP90 bypass oil filter
https://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-prod...pass/filters-and-mounts/ea-bypass-oil-filter/

I have a preffered customer acct so i don't pay full price.

I started running the larger BP 100. But since i don't have long drain intevals, i moved down to the BP90. The filter filters better when full of soot anyway.

Cummins says their stratapore LF 16035 is for longer drain intervals, filters smaller microns, and helps with sludge control. My experience is using a quality oil will reduce the sludge (deteregents)

Mine came with the Mopar 0508 3285 AA MO-285 . I would say no it is not the Stratapore. It would be nice if it was ,its the one I use. May go to the Stratapore ,but its just been to convenient to get the Mopar MO-285 from Walmart.

At 5K between oil changes not real concerned about going to the Fleetguard Stratapore, which is apparently the best we can use.

If you are a low mileage driver, you will hit the 6 months before you hit the 15K.

NOTE:
• Under no circumstances should oil change intervals
exceed 15,000 miles (24,000 km) or six months or
500 Hours, whichever comes first.

How does the 6 month time frame play into changing the oil? I'm at 6 months, with 7800mi and the oil indicator shows 48% life left for the oil. I am changing the oil now, but am wondering for future changes. I know I need to follow the "requirements" for warranty issues, but don't understand the time frame element. Does the oil break down over time? Thanks
