I'm about to get a COMP box with 75 k miles on my 98 24V. I know if I don't tap the pump wire, then I'll just have an EZ, but I know I'll tap the pump wire soon, ending any warranty I might have.

I'm wondering how hard it would be to get the pump wiring harness and have it around so when I go to the stealer, I just pop that on and remove the COMP box and the wiring harness with the pump wire tapped with it. Would this be hard to do?

I have the blue chip cover and it is a really sweet idea. It replaces the cover on the VP44 and taps into the wire inside the pump. It is easy to remove (had to take mine off today). Some one else has a stealthy setup on the market now, TST? I can't remember but I did not want to scotchlock my wire with 40k on the truck and this works very well.

I don't have any pictures but I am sure there are some out there.

Ted

Yep, TST has a quick connector that taps from the bottom of the wire with a "prick", it removes real easy, with no signs of "wire tapping". A freind of mine just had one put on his truck in Muncie when he bought a PM Comp there. It's slick, you'll have to call 'em for $$ questions. I think it's called. . the "grabber" or "gripper" or somethin' to that effect.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was said the ECM keeps a log of all over-fueling, etc and any DC tech worth his salt can pull-up that info when they hook the truck up to thier computer. Actually now that I think about it I can not remember if DC service depts have the software capability to do this, maybe it was Cummins

Yes but any box, I repeat any box will show in the computer. I thought i remembered that only the cummins techs can get the info but the DC guys might also. But the computer holds all the info on fueling. This means that is shows up if scanned even if you have not tapped the pump or are running an ez.

Basically you are cheating the system and might get caught but they would have to want to screw you to go through the trouble to scan the computer for over fueling info. So be nice to the service guy.

I still don't see how the grabber would tap into the wire and not leave any marks. Anyone use the grabber? Please let me know how it works.

Still questionable about blue chip cover. I don't know how well it will make a contact and heard about the screw backing out...

Charles

Charles the only way i could see the screw backing out is if you did nto understand the lock nut that is used. it is pretty fool proof. If you follow the direction you are ok but a couple people have put the screw in to far and that is not a good thing.

i can't comment on the grabber as I have never seen one but from what I have heard they do what they advertise.

Well it looks just like my test clamp for a fluke meter ( in fact I'm sure it is the same thing) and it will put a hole in the wire. Also it's not made to be used full time. It's spring loaded and made to "probe" wires to hook up test equipment. I have one and I would not use it for this application... . YMMV :)

Ted, W-Cummins,

Thanks for the info... I agree about the grabber looking like a piece of test equipment. It seems a lot of the "problems" people have are due to the pump wire connection being loose.

Are you happy with the blue chip cover? That looks like a good way to go.

Thanks,

Charles

charles..... i am EXTREMELY happy with my pump cover. install probably took me longer because i'm a klutz but the directions were excellent. just remember NOT to ground your box with the ground on the cover!! i understand bad things will happen.
