Painless wiring instructions

Source for hubcaps?

Just installed my new Comp (from my upgrade PE 3 light), and was wondering why it comes on every time I turn the key on.

Q: Is it supposed to, or is this a faulty wiring problem?

My PE stayed off unless I turned it on myself. Not really a big deal, but I don't like this feature.

Impressions: Great product (so far). All the levels and sub-levels make it easy to dial it in to just what you want/need. Level 5x5 smokes like a freight train (at 70 mph and punched it) and hauls like a scalded a** dog. And the EGT's seemed lower than with the PE. Mileage looks like it may have gone up a bit, but will need more miles to be sure.

I know the EZ part of the program works 'full time' (even with the box off) but, I didn't notice the "low end" increase everyone talks about. Maybe I'll have to get a load behind it to notice it more. But, overall I'm pleased as a gopher in soft dirt.

when i turn my comp off the only thing that's still working is the boost module. the ez is setting 1 and the rest are fueling levels.

Walker, yes it is normal for the comp to come back on w/ reignition. When I swapped mine in to take the place of the EZ/EDGE combo I thought there was something wrong. After talking to Brett, I understand why it turns back on. This is to bring the timing and low end fuel back into play when the truck is started up. The lower EGTs are due to the timing advance. Jim is right, w/ the box off you only have a boost module.

Thanks

You're right fellas. I was thinking the EZ was on all the time along with the boost module. Good to know mine is working ok then.

Let me get this right:

- So, the EZ is on at all levels (1-5) with sub levels for all 5 levels.

- Level 1 is the EZ only (timing) with sub levels for fueling the EZ.

- The PE (or fueling levels) are only levels 2-5 (not 1), and have sub levels for boost activation.

Questions:

- I thought the EZ (level 1) was a constant (set limit) timing advance only, so why would it need different boost levels before activating and/or fueling levels (depending on what the sublevels actually are for this level 1 setting)?

- The sub levels being fueling adjustments on levels 2-5, are they set for an exact certain amount of boost (i. e. 2,5,10,15,20)? Do you know the numbers? And I'm sure as the levels increase, so does the amount of fuel delivered, right? So, you can have a level 5 setting, with a sub level 1 setting, and you'd get the most fuel, but at the highest boost, correct?

Ain't technology great :D

(edit) And I guess that explains why I didn't notice a difference with the box off (thinking the EZ was on). I'm sure I'll see the improvement everyone is talking about now.

when i had the ez it had 3 settings. on was 5psi 10psi and 20psi.

so i think the comp must have the same deal with 5 settings instead 3 like the ez.

on the later comps you can fuel less than stock to stop smoke with injectors. my box does not have this feature(thank goodness) so part of the 5 sublevels would be for less fueling. i don't know the psi #'s at which it comes on.

Hmm I just orderd mine to upgrade now im gettting a little nervous with all the talk going on with the install of needing this and it killed a injection pump etc... ... ... .

You have a 2001, your pump is one of the "stronger" ones. There are some 98. 5's and 99's that were problem pumps, and yes installing a box will kill it in about 20 minutes if it is a weak one. Did you read that BlueChip article ?

I wouldn't worry about installing one, I ran my Hot PE for roughly 15,000 miles or so with no problems. And the COMP will go on as soon as the transmission is done (VB got here today, waiting on TC).

Hi Sky,

I installed mine and drove it hard to see if I could kill the pump. One word of caution is to be careful around the water in fuel sensor, $130 part. I dont know if I broke it or the factory did installing something on the motor. It had a clean break at the end of the threads the only thing holding it was the probes that go thru it. This was the diesel leak I had in Spokane. At first I thought it was a banjo bolt. Have fun :D . Sam

Sky, ask Edge if they will include the "prick" connection vs the scotchlock one? It will hide the connection better if removed. But then again some dealers don't look all that hard. I took my PE off the truck but my harness is still in there and they haven't said a word about it. I just made it "blend" in with everything else.
