2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Compass/Temp consol

I wanted to add the compass and temp deal over the rearview mirrow to my pickup. The dealer says it can't be added and that there are no wires for it in the truck. They also said everything is different and has to be changed so it can't be done. I find it hard to believe. Has anyone tried this or know if it can be done??

It can be done



The dealer is correct that the wiring harness is not hiding in the truck to complete the install but that is no big deal as you will just have to hook up all the wires individually. Overall it is not a very difficult. It took me quite a while to figure out what all the wiring was and where to best connect it but that is the worst part of the project. I know I made some notes when I did my install, I will dig them up.

Hey Cooker, are there any sensors that are needed? How does the computer monitor the fuel consumption. My truck already has the overhead computer but I have always been curious as to how it is monitored.

The 1994-1998 overhead consoles are different than the 1999 and up. I am only familiar with the earlier models which do not monitor fuel consumption but they do monitor air temperature which does require a sensor. Sorry I could not be of more help.
