I just orded a new head unit & went ahead & got the Ininity component speakers for the front. Where should I mount the tweeters?

I bought a Kenwood Excellon KDC579 & Infinity reference component front, & coaxial rear.

Tweeters

I put mine in the factory "Infinity" location on the doors. Used the factory grills.

 Looks and sounds great.

i have put in tweeters in two spots. first off, if your tweeters are 1 inch or more, the factory location on the post will not mount up. you need to modify it. is it worth it? yes. the second location to mount the tweeters is to drill a hole above the 6. 5 and mount it. the placement is totally up to you. you are going to have to make a mounting plate for the 6. 5 in the doors. it is a factory 6x9 in the door. if you mount the tweeters in the door, the higher up you can go the better. good luck.

I have three way speakers mount in the front and 4 way in the rear.

I nrear there is a 6. 5 in the stock location 10 under the seat and a tweeter and super tweeter mounted up above the seat belt.

In front I have a 6 mounted in the door a 2. 5 mounted in the "infinity tweeter" location on a custom mount and then a tweeter mounted in the AC duct.

FYI sub is non directional with increasingly higher frequenices being more directional and should be aimed more directly at the head thus the reason for the tweeters mounted above seatbelts and in the AC ducts which made for a a very clean well rounded sound for a truck envirnoment.

My truck did not come with Tweeters, so I used the 45deg adapters infinity supplied & screwed them to the upper door panel using the original attaching screw hole. It worked out great, they are in a good spot for sound & out of the way. The wire runs over the back of the door panel edge, so I did not have to put any extra holes in anything!

If you like the front soundstage very bright, put them in the stock pillars. If you want it more neutral, try to keep it as close to the mid driver as you can.

The purists will tell you the mid/woof and tweeter need to be close together for proper imaging. The problem is if you mount the tweeters low on the door the image sucks :{ The image comes from the sides and rear. The high mounted tweeter will pull the image up closer to the front windshield.

Mount the mid/woof in the stock door position and the tweeter up higher in the smooth spot just below the side window.

Don't forget the rear fill and some subs :D

As Dane said, it does become somewhat directional being that they are mounted so far down in the doors. Most current separates have a setting in their crossover for gain/defeat of a certain dB on the tweet. I'd imaging you'd want to use this if you mount the tweets high up.

Mine have a -3db position on the crossover & the tweets are a little strong, but I'm going to wait on the -3 posiion until I try them with the sub I'm installing.

The tweets should match, volume wise, what you have for mids. If they are bright now, turn them down. Once you add subs, if the subs are too much, you'll just turn it down (yeah, right!). :)
