Ballpark cost of repainting truck?

The Ford Mustang is Dead Dead...

At a BBQ Saturday and this motor head starts ragging me about my loud wimpy Dodge truck.

1. "Did you know that Mitsubishi is making the engines for Cummins because they are the only ones that can quiet them down?"

2. "The new Ford is getting a 6. 8 liter diesel with OEM propane injection, and 100k mile warranty. "

He also went on to brag about a buddy of his that has a Duramax drag truck with $152k worth of work and puts down 1100 foot pounds of torque...

"Wow. I have $1k invested in mine and I put down 818. For another $3k I should be able to hit 1200. " (Injectors, Turbo, Fueling box. Not very streetable but good for a dyno run or two)

"Well this truck does a 10. 2 quarter mile and has 1500, no 1800 pounds of torque... where's my beer. "

"Your beer is in you other hand. Your buddy wasted his money if he has dropped that much money in his truck and is only getting a 10. 2 in the quarter. "

OK, so this guy is a little fuzzy around the edges, but he has to have gotten the information from somewhere.

1. False - Cummins makes the 5. 9 at the Columbus, IN Cummins plant. There is a two guys garage episode that aired this weekend going through the plant. The TDR had a national get together there last year and we all toured through the plant.

2. Also falso - the new Ford engine has 570 ft/lbs of torque according to a recent article which isn't much more than it's producing now and still less than the Cummins 600.

If there was a Dmax going 10. 2 in the 1/4 I'm sure we'd have heard about it - it would be all over the net. They are quick but not that quick yet.

He got those numbers from that can of something in his hand, or his buddy with the truck did. Put 'em on the dyno, or track and show us the slips.

If somebody gave you one - and you HAD to use it - you had better have very deep pockets... ... . they are indeed for the "rich and famous", or foolish whichever you prefer.....

Points 1 and 2 had merit. It is not uncommon for a company to outsource the manufacturing of a product, although I did try to explain to him that it was still a cummins engine and they made it quieter by the common rail FI, thicker journals for the crank/rod bearings, and a thicker block.

"Nope, Mitsubishi is makin it... hic"

With Ford, there is another possibility. I had heard that they were looking into a new engine to dump the 6. 0, and propane is not that unheard of, after all, the 2005 has a built in brake controller for trailers now.

The Duramax, I did not even want to go there.

Not a dealer, just a motorhead who owns a GMC.

I had a friend tell me a couple of days ago that the ford 6. 0's engines are not made by Internation but by Cat... those engines are CATS. . I tried to tell him otherwise but got all ****** off at me so I just sat there and let him ramble on... . pretty funny though

Ha! That's a new one to me. Cat! And my Dodge diesel is made by Cummins!!! Oh wait, it is! They just wish they had a big diesel engine company making their engines for them.

The only real way to handle the statements the guy made to Stick is "Your village called and it seems that their idiot is missing. "

These guys that are telling such stuff, its really sad that alot of pple are still walking around with blinders on not to mention those are your, *I KNOW IT ALLS BUT DON'T KNOW S**T) people.

Anyone that would even remotely think that mitsubishi is making our engines or any part of them, TO THEM I SAY HAVE ANOTHER BUDDY .....

Sorry i couldn't resist chiming in after hear such crap-ola... ...

Sounds like guys i used to race there buddy always had somethig faster and better ,and if and when he could find this so called close friend and gthey got out done, pulled or stuck in the mud they always seemed to have mysterious mechanical trouble you know one excuse after another

Yep, know those types. They get out of their truck after getting beat in the 1/4 mile and say "not bad for running on seven cylinders, just imagine how badly I would have beat ya with all eight". Of course, that is when you tell him that you were only running "on six cylinders".
