My point was that my wife has never towed anything. Letting her loose with a 45 foot 5th wheel as her first towing experience is a bit unsafe regardless of what the tow vehicle is. IMHO, my trailer is not a starter trailer. Experience is a large part of getting to where you are going safely. If she were to miscalculate stopping distance with a 1000 pound snowmobile trailer, no big deal. It is a MUCH bigger deal if she goes down a 7% grade at 65 MPH with the camper because she doesn 't know better and expects to stop at the sign at the bottom of the hill. Fortunately, I would be there to help her learn if she had any desire to, but the first time RV buyer is just let loose on the road as soon as he is hitched up. He may have no idea how to effectively use his mirrors, judge stopping distances or figure out if he has enough acceleration to make it through an intersection. It is scone nature to most of us by now but it is not to the inexperienced. My wife has never driven anything bigger than a mini van. I am currently fortunate that my wife has no interest in towing anything or even driving my truck. I make a terrible passenger and my insurance is already high enough.
