Cool down temp

Howdy,



Just traded my '95 Dually for an 'O6. What a difference. Question is, I used to let the turbo (Banks) cool down to 300° before shutting down. Are the new ones supposed to cool to the same temp? I'm adding on a BD cool down 'timer' which req. one to set the shut down temp instead of time.

I let my truck cool down to 300-350 are I have had truck set at 3 min before turn off.

I also use the 300deg rule on my 06'. The 06' seems too run hotter under a load and cool faster at rest.

That is very interesting. I would assume you guys are talking about pre turbo temps of 300 degrees right? Or maybe the temp differential at idle is much less or 0. My stock 06 will sit at idle from cold and reach 300 degrees in no time. I generally wait until the pyro temp drops to 350 on my post turbo mounted gauge. As mentioned, it really seems to cool quickly on my 06.

My post-turbo temps are normally well below 250 when I stop. I usually wait until 200 before shut down (just to be safe), but it's really not necessary.

With 100* heat, it's been impossible to hit 300*. The lowest I got was ~ 310* after idling for 15 mins.

I had the timer on the Edge Attitude set for 320 but it can take 5 minutes or longer to get there here in the Texas heat. I bumped it to 335 and it shuts off in a minute or two. I will lower it to 300 when the temps come down outside.

I let mine get to 280 pre-turbo before shutdown. I've done that ever since my gauges went in 3 years ago. Ironically, it takes longer to cool down in the winter when I have the winter front on than when it is 105 out like now.

My buddy was telling me that if he runs hit engine to about 1000rpms, he can get it down under 300* fairly quick, but at idle, the lowest he could get was 309*

I am reading pre turbo and find it very hard to get to 300 even when running empty. Usually shut down when -400 is on the dial. Doc

I've got my probe pre-turbo. It takes forever to get to or sub 300 degrees. My rule of thumb is 375-395 and that's about 2 minutes of idle-down.

FYI I have found that with my truck, it takes longer to cool down if I have the air on. Also I have an Isspro turbo temp monitor set to shut off @ 300 deg. installed with a probe post turbo, and a gauge installed pre- turbo. If I shut it down when the gauge reads 300 deg. , shortly after shut down the gauge will climb to 400+ degrees. Using the TTM, the gauge will reach 300 deg. long before the monitor will shut off the truck. Also if i let the monitor shut it down, the gauge does not climb up after shutdown.
