Competition How Much Does Your Sled Weigh?

Off Roading Happy Thanksgiving!

This tire talk got me looking and I may have my sights set on something else as a likely new tire to replace my Yokohama Geolandars when the times comes around. Falken Wildpeak A/T3W is a newer hybrid all terrain/mud tire that reviewers are claiming to like better than any Coopers or Nittos. They do not offer the performance of a dedicated mud tire but they are rated highly their customers in every other aspect, including having a lower price.

I haven't yet read enough reviews to report on tread life but one thing not immediately obvious is that their P sizes use a softer compound that grips better in wet weather than their LT sizes, which have more durable, stiffer compound, which is what I would be selecting. You might want to consider these, they also have an MT tire if you think you need that tread.

I'm really hung up on tire construction and specifically 3 ply sidewalls so the Falken Wildpeak M/T would be the tire that compares to the other 3 ply sidewall tires discussed in this thread.

For rock crawling definitely. I gorged the sidewall of a Dick Cepek Fun Country II on a goat trail in Colorado. Worst tires I ever had in many ways. Reviews are fair on the Wildpeak M/T. If sticking with a mud tread, going by reviews and brand experience I'd choose the Cooper STT Pro. I've seen them go on sale for less than Falkens.

I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 5.9L. I ran Toyo Open Country for years. I am now on my second set of Coopers Discoverer AT3 and I am quite pleased with them. My trucks hardest job is a 10' pickup camper hauling a two place horse trailer (with all the gear) through the mountains and back country of Idaho. These tires hold up great off road and under load. You won't be disappointed.
