Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Correct starter bolt wrench

The shop manual does not have it listed as a special tool .

The 10 mm 12 pointer is just a little too loose for my liking.

The 3/8 " torx socket doesn't fit. The bolt looks like it has at least 12 , maybe 14 splines on it.

Can anyone tell me what the real wrench to fit it is ?

The 10mm box end 12 point is the correct wrench. Lets face it, nearly everything on these DC products are shall we ********. I'm trying to get the lift pump off today, which means taking the starter off just to get to it. Had some trouble with the starter, but nothing compared to the lift pump. What a brilliant peice of engineering went in to this one.

10 mm 12 point.



Remove the lift pump from the top and you don't have to remove the starter.



It helps to remove the fuel filter to.



Also some remove the fasteners from the master cylinder and slide it over for more clearance.



It's a job done with a bright flouresent trouble light and by feel!



Do it a couple of times, it gets easier.



I also change the o-ring (above the fuel heater) and the pre-filter, o-ring etc.



Make sure that the nut for the fuel heater is snug, but not overtightened.



I think this (o-ring. . above the fuel heater) is an overlooked problem. .

That's because the 5. 9 was designed to be hanging out in space in a tractor or generator, not trapped in the confines under a hood.

A tilt forward front end would help. Sigh!
