Turbo oil requirement question

Cool PW pics

I don't mean to beat this to death but what is going on. In my area (Western Pa. ) you can buy gasoline for as low as 1. 099 but the same sations that sell gas that low are still selling diesel fuel for 1. 579. I can't understand it. Gasoline has come down . 20 to . 30 cents and diesel fuel hasn't dropped at all. I think there is a conspiracy to keep people from buying diesel powered vehicles. Anyone travelling to western Pa. be sure to fill up before you get here.

Diesel cost

Same thing out here in Colorado- Diesel is 10 to 14 cents higher than regular gas.

And it ain't 'cause they're pumping winter blend yet!

Kind of messes up the MPG advantage of a diesel if it costs more than regular gas... .

The station I usually try to fill up at had regular unleaded for $1. 41 and Diesel for $1. 35 the last time I filled up. But there's some places around here that have diesel at $1. 49 and I think some even higher than that. The price is definately all over the place. Need to shop around to avoid paying $. 15 / gal too much.

One of the main reasons for the higher priced diesel in areas is due to demand/production. In our area our refineries are at 95% production. What that means is that they can only produce a certain amount of the various grades of gasoline and diesel. Reformulated gas takes even more steps to refine. (And just because your area doesn't use reformulated gas doesn't means that your local refinery doesn't produce it. ) If the demand for gas causes a need for an increase in production then that means that not as much diesel will be produced.

Although their are companies willing to profiteer, on the whole they are far and few between. It does really come down to economics.

I have yet to understand fuel pricing in this area. We have the highest gasoline prices in the country. $1. 89 for regular. The last tank of diesel I bought was $1. 53. So there is about a 40 cent difference in price. Now, if I go to a city in northern CA diesel is more expensive and gasoline is cheaper so the price per gallon is about the same for both.

Cobra, here in Harrisburg I found a price difference of $1. 29 - $1. 49 all within 2 exits on the highway. I agree Diesel is to vairiant in price compared to regular petrol. But I assume that has to deal with the supply & demand.

I have 2 places I buy diesel at & they are consistanly low. So I always try to scedule fill ups at either one of those stations.

Here in Connecticut....

I've been paying $1. 39 all summer at my favorite Citgo. I went last week and it was down to $1. 36. My girlfriend just drove by it and it's down to $1. 30 :D . Gasoline is about $1. 39 right now so I'm still enjoying cheaper than gas prices. ;)

Cheer up Guys, its 'posta come down more. I was just reading an engineering book that says a gas engine can only use 25% of the energy of combustion, a diesel can use up to 40%. So another way to look at it if diesel is $1. 40 you're getting $. 56 per gallon to use, BUT a gasser at $1. 10 is getting only $ . 27 per gallon to use. Kinda looks better at least!:p

I filled up the "beater" last night for $1. 13/gallon for gasoline. It was at one of the stations I typically buy fuel at and fuel was $1. 45.

What's up with this? The only thing I hope, and this will offset this price variation now, is that when gas goes to $2. 00 again, fuel stays at ~$1. 50.

Best Diesel Prices in Western PA

Cobra,

Best fuel price in western PA can be found on the PA Turnpike. Was around 1. 359 when I went through last weekend. There is a small, cash only station at the top of the hill entering Mt Pleasant that is usually +/- a few cents of Turnpike prices.

moor than we need

Hay guys I supose we have moor than we can use out hear in this part of the country(MO) at Mr Fuel up the street thay have gas at 1. 13 and diesel at 1. 17 so is that a hoot are what?

Diesel Prices

Am taking off for Phoenix this afternoon, and checking out the prices at Love's Truckstops web site;

Colorado $1. 42

New Mexico $1. 25

Arizona $1. 40

Needless to say, I'll be fueling up in NM as much as I can.

Up here and in other winter heating areas they call it "seasonal adjustment" We compete with the folks that demand heating fuels this time of the year.

Still much less expensive for gasoline and fuel than in August.

JohnE, you hit the nail on the head...
Up here and in other winter heating areas they call it "seasonal adjustment"
... The demand for fuel oil for heating causes the price of all fuel oil to go up in the winter. This is the usual seasonal fluctuation, though I have seen years where this mysteriously does not happen.

They're saying now that the low demand for jet fuel (kerosene) may put a lot more supply toward diesel fuel, lowing the price.

Now that oil is cheap. Winter is rolling in. Wich means I diesel prices will stay high. Just can't get a break from these high prices.

Go figure!

Winter is getting closer and fuel prices just dropped a dime or so. Down to $1. 359 at the local truck stop. It was $1. 319 at the big stops 30 miles away where they have competition.

BTW, cleared an obstruction in the filler neck yesterday. I can fill at full flow now.

In E. Pennsylvania around Philadelphia and north I was seeing unleaded prices $1. 15 -$1. 27 most of the time last week, I did see one station at $1. 09. Diesel was about 20c higher. It is interesting with all the congestion and mass traffic and insane driving in Pennsylvania that gas is so cheap there

Here at home (E. Washington State) diesel is about the same price as Penn. but gasoline is around $1. 55.

After driving in Pennsylvania for a week, it seems drivers here don't know what to do with the gas pedal. . .
