CP3 options after warranty expires?

I am coming up on 100k and although the truck is running great, I am always trying to look forward to possible problems in an effort to be ready for them.



My questions are:

Where can I look for a CP3 pump other than the dealer if I have a failure?



Are the Bosch rebuilders dealing on this pump yet or is it still controlled though Dodge?



If available aftermarket, what kind of prices are available and what is the situation with modified pumps? Any thoughts on longevity of modified pumps?



How big of a job is it to replace one of these and get it timed correctly?

Last question:



No timing, it is just a 'dumb' pump that makes pressure.

Changing pumps is probably a 1 hour or less job in the truck.

You just need a gear puller or use a small ball peen hammer to tap the pump shaft for gear removal (yeah I know it sounds bad, but it works).

The retaining nut on the pump is 27mm. The 3 mounting nuts are 13mm torqued to 18 ft lbs.

Lube new o ring well so the pump slips into the housing.

Pulling and installing pump into housing can be challenging.



I once changed one (not in a truck) in like 14 minutes or something crazy like that.

I was thinking the same thing when it comes to getting a CP3 pump. When the dealer charges 600+ for an injector what does a pump run. I stumbled upon an 03 CTD that had been totally bombed by a guy in Las Vegas. He blew the engine at around 50k and had a new one dropped in by a diesel mechanic in my area. The old one still had many parts including the pump. I would start searching for shops that specialize in diesels. These guys love the whole chip aftermarket because our diesels would never need major repair if it wasn't for these bombing parts. Eventually you'll find a shop that has a CTD sitting there that has been blown.

When I lost my last transfer pump without warning I thought it might have been the CP3, and called the dealer to get a price. Installed was somewhere north of $3k. If mine dies, I'll find a wrecked truck and either get the entire engine or the pump.

I had gotten a price of around 1300-1400 for one from a dealer, and a bosch location quoted me about 950 for a rebuilt pump.

The cp3 pump is available at any bosch diesel service dealer. Anything more than 900. 00 is just getting screwed.

Agreed... I was quoted $3200 installed...



I saw a listing for $950 also...
