Great ideas, VC!!! If the club officers maintain the where-abouts, and bring them to club functions, more of us could benefit from the KDP insurance policy!

That sounds like a good idea--if either one of these guys is interested in keeping track of the jigs. Someone needs to keep on eye on these at all times so they won't "disappear". My intention in making the jigs was to make them available to as many people as possible--not to have them sitting on a shelf or in someone's toolbox. With my limited amount of time, I cannot keep track of them --that's why I need volunteers to do that part.

I am in the process of putting together a few more sets to send out.

From the comments I have read on prior posts, I see that the hardest part of doing the "fix" is getting the fan loose. So, with the new batch, I am including a wrench and holder to remove the fan. Hopefully, I will be able to get some out next week.

Thanks to all who sent a contribution--it will help with the costs of this new batch. (Postage will be more with the wrenches, but I think it will be well worth it. )

Excellent idea on the fan wrench and holder. I agree the couple extra $$$ on shipping are well worth the saved aggravation of not being able to remove the fan easily.

another idea for you so that you personally don't incour more expense out your pockets, how about getting a small shipping ahead of time from whomever you will send the jig to. You can email that particular person with your address and ask them to send you the shipping charges ahead of time - I sure there will be no hesitation.

KDP JIG NEEDS REPAIR!!!

KDP Jig #3 arrived at my house today. That's the good news, the bad news is that when I opened the box, I discovered that the tap is broken. It is snapped at the beginning of the threads. I'll assume it was broken by the previous user. I'd be happy to buy a new tap, but I thought I'd check with you first in the event you would prefer to repair it yourself since you did such a nice job on all these tools.

If you'd like me to repair it, please give me a little advice. It appears I'll have to drive out the split pin first? Then pull out the broken tap, insert new one, then replace the split pin? I guess I'll need to drill a hole in the new shaft to accept the split pin? What size threads is the tap?

I won't do anything untill I hear from you... .

The tap is "silver brazed" into the sleeve. E-mail me your address and I'll send a new tap assembly in the morning by prioriety mail.

You can send the broken one back to me later -- I'll repair it and use it in another kit.

The jig arrived at my house today i believe, i got a phone call saying there was a package there but i wont see it until fri when i go home. i was jsut wondering how long it takes to do the KDP fix wiith the jig. i really jsut need to know how much time to allow so i can decide if i can do the fix this weekend, possibly next week or at the very latest next weekend. thanks

Your first time doing it I would set aside 2 - 2. 5 hours. This is more than enough time to do some BS'ing and take a coffe break and still get the job done. I think "illflem" said he can do the KDP fix in under an hour now, but he's done it over 30 times.



The fan is a real PIA to get off, and IMO is the hardest part of the job, after that it's a breeze. If you have a problem with the fan, a chain wrech on the fan pully sure does the trick.

do i need to get a special tool or anythign to get the fan off? also what else do i need to remove to do the fix? i am trying to find out now so i can have all the tools i need and jsut go home on fri get the job done and get the jig to the next person in line. any other tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks to all

Big wrench!!

The way I took my fan off was;



1. Obtain a long 1 7/16 open end wrench.

2. Obtain a fairly thin, long 10mm open end wrench.

3. Spray some WD-40 on the seam between the nut and the pulley

4. Obain a BIG hammer.



While holding the fan nut with the 1 7/16 wrench and holding the fan pulley with the 10mm wrench, solidly hit the end of the large wrench with the large hammer. REMEMBER OPPOSITE THREADS ON THE FAN NUT.



Be patient, it may take several blows.

Bandit1, you will need cheap 1-7/16" open end wrench, I say cheap because the head can't be too thick, most cheap ones foot the bill. A pair of 16" Channel-Locs or chain wrench to hold the fan pulley. A drift at least 16" long to whack the fan nut on the right side of the nut flat good a couple of times. After you whack the nut hold the pulley attach the wrench and hit it to right, of the 30 or so I've done that's all it takes, the fan will unscrew by hand after that. No need to pull the fan out, just drop it down out of the way. The rest is easy straight forward bolt turning.

If that jig makes it's way to Pumperdude in Louisana I sure would love to use it here in east Texas. I don't know of a list for the Texas area. I can use the jig anytime and I won't keep it but a day or two. I'm ready, I just need the jig.

however i had an emergency and am getting the jig back for me cuz I blew my head gasket and my truck is pretty severly down. . I will get her done as soon as i get the jig and send her out again
