The part #s for future info are

cooler element, 3957544, or updated #3929792

Inner gasket, 3929792 or updated #3918256

outer gasket, 3949214 or updated #3918257

Cummins #s.

Note : Rockey Mountian Cummins in Denver was $250 for the cooler. Ordered it locally through Cummins for $224 and it will be here tomorrow, not bad for small town America.

Yeah, I buy parts from Rocky Mountain Cummins and from MHC, usually give me a break on costs.

Test your cooler FIRST, before you fork over $224 though.

One question? Where is this thing under the hood? Is it on the engine block or the radiator and where?

It's mounted in the side of the engine block below and hidden by oil filter. bg

Took off the cooler and put 30 psi to it. Found the leak and cut the cooler in two for curiosity. There was an ever so slight bulge and a hairline split about an inch long on the flat metal surface of one of the plates. Since there is no rust of corrosion, and it blows out from the oil side WHY it would do that is why Mr. Murphy is so famous. Moral of the story, if your pickup is up in miles, everytime your wife has to make a pit stop, get out and check the oil, and peek in the overflow.

HTML:
peek in the overflow.

I almost read it as "pee in the overflow" :-laf :-laf since you were talking about pit stops. ROF Sorry it's late.

Darn it Jay!!! Now I gotta make a trip down the hall... ... ... :( :(

I was told the earlier oil coolers had some problems and somewhere around that 250k range it was good idea to update them. Haven't heard of as many problems with the later units. Maybe there was a bit of a QC problem in the early years.

Can you say KDP and #53 block? :( :(

Ahhhh yes... Jay is in FINE form tonight... . gotta luv it don't ya... :D:D

Hey carlwest... grab those part numbers and post them in the "discontinued/hard to find" forum for future reference..... good job calling those up for a fellow 1st genner...
