Folks,

I need help with the truck, so maybe TDR can come help again. So, here we go. As the weather started warming up here in the Carolinas, about a week ago, I hopped into the truck for a cold start in the morning. Started right up. A couple of hours later, after driving to work and needing to drive to the store, the truck took about 3 seconds longer to start the truck. No problem, as this has happened before. After leaving the store, the truck would crank for about 8 seconds before starting. Now, THIS, has my undivided attenion..... This whole disturbance keeps up to today. However, I have noticed a couple of different factors. If the truck (by means of the engine temp gauge) hasnt moved from 140 degrees (basically a cold start), the truck will fire like nothing else. A little more, the engine turns a little more then fires. While at normal operating temps, after shutoff, then turn on 5-10 mins later, the truck will crank at least two complete times before firing... . WTF? I know the VP was one of the more complaint filled fuel delivery systems out there, and I am sure this issue was touched on somewhere, I cant find it. Also, I am registering 15 on the FP before ANY startup and 10 during cranking... . AT ANY TIME. Do I need a excorsism? Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Kind Regards,

John

not an expert on this but i would guess its the vp. Fuel pressure may be fine, but thats your lift pump making that pressure. Just a theory, but maybe the warmer engine temp is causing warmer VP temps and then causing poor fuel delivery at startup? For your sake, I hope i'm wrong as that is not a cheap fix.

My truck did the same thing for few weeks before my vp44 died. This seems to be the only symptom of the vp44 dying other than the "dead pedal" symptom. If there are no active codes. Start looking closing at the fuel system. Check for any slow fuel leaks. Otherwise you may suffer from the only bad part of 98. 5 to 02 cummins, the dreadful death of the vp44. :(

FASS 95... ... .

And if this is a dreadful death... . god forbid, can I get another without sending the faulty one in, as it still runs, I can have a back up when it breaks? Price is NOT A PROBLEM

You can send in the "core" later. I like the PRICE IS NOT A PROBLEM statement. Mostly true here too if it concerns my truck. Now furniture, lets discuss it. LOL LOL

Yea you can get another one with giving the ''faulty'' one back but you will pay a core charge of $400 or around there.
