I have a 01,3500 with about 4000 miles on it. Lately I have been getting a very loud creaking noise from I think the body to frame mounts. I have a set of weisten bars that attach to these mounts but I can;t see how they would cause this problem. Noise seems to happen most when first taking off,and mostly when going around a corner. Has any one else had this? Is there any thing I could lube the mounts with to stop the noise? Thanks in advance for any help.

Does the creaking sound like its' coming from the left or right side of the top of the dash? If so there is a TSB for that.

The noise is on the left side but under the truck. If you take your foot and push hard on the step bar you can even make it make the noise.

Bill: I had the same type of creaking noise that sounded like it was coming from the bed mounts or somewhere from behind. Mine was noticeable when stopping and turning right. I sprayed some WD40 on the bottom rubber isolation pieces on the bed mounts as well as the spring mounts and stops and the noise went away. Might be the same problem. Tom

Bill,

I have a 2000 3500 with Westin Nerf Bars and the exact problem as yours. I would hear a creaking/popping sound when applying the brakes or going around a corner. The tech at Karl Klement Dodge and I both thought it was a rear brake problem. After we just about took the truck apart, we finally decided is was the mounting bracket on the left rear nerf bar. He tightened up the mounting bolt and the noise went away. I drove the 18 miles home the back way on country roads for a test and the sound was worse by the time I got home.

I took the mounting bracket off and drove down the road--no noise. I later decided to swap sides with the rear mounting brackets and guess what--no more of the noise. I have been about 7,000 miles now and the noise hasn't returned.

I would swap sides with your rear mounting brakcets and see if that fixes your problem. Also don't torque the mounting bolt quite as tight as called for in the service manual. I think it calls for about 50-60 lbs. ft. , but I torqued them to 35. Good luck!!!

Bill

I also have Westin bars on my truck, and get the groan when stopping. I guess I'll try the fixes listed. Thanks to all.
