Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Cruise control/exhaust brake problem

While driving down a steep mountain pass, I had the exhaust brake on (pacbrake) and had forgotten to turn off the cruise control. The cruise control and exhaust brake began cycling on and off, but it didn't register with me that this wasn't normal. After we came down the hill and had started into town, the accelerator pedal went dead and the "service engine soon" light came on. We pulled over, shut down, waited a few minutes and started back up and continued on our way. On the return trip, the pedal went dead several times. As soon as we had gotten back, we had the codes cleared by US Diesel Parts, who said the problem was the APPS.



Things were fine for about the next month but we have had this happen again recently--dead accelerator pedal, service light comes on. The light will go off after several start ups.



Has anyone else had a problem like this? Did I burn out something in the APPS? Also, if it is the APPS, does anyone have a source to purchase this? I can purchase one from our local Napa dealer for $308. (expensive mistake... ) How difficult is this to replace? Also, while trying to research this problem, I found something that referred to APPS Idle validation switches #1 & #2. Could either of these be a problem, can they be replace separately, or are they part of the APPS sensor?



Our truck is also equipped with an Edge with Attitude and a Fasfuel system.
