Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Cruise controll out

I converted my automatic trans. to a manual about a year ago. Since my swap the cruise controll hasn't worked. My truck is a 98' 2500 with a 00' nv4500. Perhaps the nv4500 lacks a gear sensor

I don't know. Everything envolved with the operation went really smooth but that. It's not all that important, but it sure would be nice to have. Not to mention it would improve my fuel consumption on a long trip.



Note: on the auto trans it has what appears to be a gear sensor and the nv4500 doesn't seem too. Is it a completely different cruise controll system?

I pm'd ya a couple of days ago. Get a Haynes manual from autozone. It should have the two configurations. Hope this helps

Its hard to find someone around DE with a manual trans! Almost 95% of the trucks like mine are auto. On the trans it looks like on the casting it has a spot for a sensor but its not taped. I'm going to look at another one w/cruise and see. Thanks for the input for the manual.

Come on anybody, I need to at least make it to first base! I think I need to by-pass the gear sensor but how?

My cruise control went out a while back and after giving up on where to look for the problem the stealership found the issue and it was a vacuum line that had a hole in it from my old battery leaking acid on it. New vacuum line and wha-la! Cruise control again.

Question for you JGheen what type of transmission do you have? Is it the nv4500 or the 5600?

I wish there was someone here the same year truck and a nv4500. Unfortunly no one around here has a CTD in this small DE town. If someone had one I could compair it to my system.

My question for you is does your transmission have a gear sensor? If it does where is it located? Thanks buddy!

My truck is the same year as yours, and I do believe it does have a gear sensor. Mine just came with the NV4500 from the factory. Does your truck have the 24v or 12v. Mine has the 12v and now that I think about it, I think only the 98. 5 that came with the 24v have the gear sensor.

JGheen my truck is a 12v. But the transmission is out of a '01 so you may have a good point about the year. On the previous TDR issue there is a ad. in reference to a trans. distributer. On that ad. it has trivia about a gear sensor, check it out my friend! I think we may be on to something thanks a million!
