Crunch time

This morning on the way to work, I was nailed in a intersection, and the truck looks pretty bad. The drivers front corner took the brunt of it. Fender, grill, bumper, hood and the rear fender are all shot. Of course I was only covered by liability, so it looks like I get to deal with the other persons insurance co. I just hope that I can get something out of it, to buy the truck back and put it back on the road. Any one know where there is a 92 grill, bumper, dually fender & maybe the hood?? I have a front fender that I might be able to get, though I'm not sure. I hope the frame isn't bent, but I think it is, cause it pulls to the right some.



I guess the bright spot in all of this was no one was hurt, It's just that truck was the best truck I've ever owned, it was the newest vehicle that I've ever had. To frost it all, I just finished paying for it in Dec.

Well, that pretty much sucks! Glad to hear you are OK. You will need to get with the insurance company and tell them you feel the frame is bent and needs to be checked. Sure glad it was the other persons fault, at least you have a shot of coming out $ wise but I doubt it will be easy. Not sure where you can get the parts, try a auto wrecker and see if they can do a search or take it to a body shop and let them see what they can find.



Maybe someone else can jump in here that knows more about this stuff. There was someone just a few months ago that had a similar situation.

I'm headed out of town for work, so I'll have to wait till Monday to find out what their insurance has to say. I'm just concerned with the availability of parts, these trucks aren't getting any younger, and the 92 & 93 are a small pool for certain used body parts.

when i got into a wreck last jan. I took mine to the body shop and all i really needed was a left fender but no deales in the US had one. Then finally i guess a dealer in Salt lake came up with one from somewhere. They were talking about going to look in junkyard for me. The bumper won't be hard for you to find but the plastic on top is the expensive part. You'll find a grill easy too, but if you buy it aftermarket it most likely won't come with the dodge letters on it. Hope this helps you out some. I've seen some fenders on Ebay but i can look in some junkyards for you. My old boss had a mint dually bed he sold to a junkyard i'll try and look for it for you. Send me a pm

I know what you are going through, my daughter crashed my truck, the left front quarter got hammered bad. Like you the best part is no on was hurt. I had comprehensive and bought it back from the insurance. The frame was bent to the tune of $1500 for just that and installing the front end parts. It was no where near drivabel the wheel took the hit. I supplied parts and did the right side front end myself, they let me do the work in their shop with my tools. I think they felt bad because they estimated low. I know the hassles about parts. I still need a grille, bumper and headlight. I ended up buying an oem fender for about $175, they had no trouble getting it. They quoted me $215 for the grill frame, it has the Dodge letters like someone said the after market don't but they are only about $100. I have been doing all the body work, I have learned a lot and don't remotely consider my time. In the end I hope to have my truck pretty together for about $4800 including what I paid the insurance company. Economically it really hasn't made much sense but like you said "It's the best truck I have ever had" so I just think of it as my hobby. I live out in the boondocks and there aren't many wrecking yards nearby, somebody on TDR turned me on to www.car-part.com which I believe is the same nationwide search of wrecking yards that the yards advertise when they say they can get parts from anywhere. I never had much luck getting yards to search for me but when I did it myself it was great. I ordered a starter from a California yard, control arms from western Washington and use it just to get a sense of how much things should cost. There are used fenders and body parts out there but I didn't think shipping them made sense hence the dealer. My aim is to get it looking and driving pretty much pre-crash because it was a pretty truck. Let me know if I can give you any advice- Todd

Guys thanks for all the replies, the adjuster is going to look at it tomorrow and I'm going to buy it back, when the time comes. The good news is I have access to a 89 parts truck and it looks like all the front sheet metal is bolted on, so I'll be able to R&R the sheet metal. The big question is what is specific to the 92/93's verses the 89, will the radiator support work from the 89? It looks like the hood, inner fender, fender will. That leaves the grill & related parts and maybe the radiator support. I'm sure I've left something out, but I'll get it eventually.

In all that I didn't see mention of a traffic ticket?



I thought with a insurance claim they require a police report? How did you get around that?

I wasn't cited in the accident and I have to get a copy of the report and fax it to their insurance co. I hope to get it on the road asap, but it may need the frame pulled into alignment.

My truck is a 93 andT the core support for the radiator is probably your biggest problem I think the intercooled version is the difference. I don't when they started with the intercooler but I know there aren't a lot of years with it and you need the support for the intercooler radiator. I ended up hammering mine back into close enough shape because the dealer wanted $750. (that's not a misprint) and the wrecking yards quoted me one for $350 if they could get it. It doesn't show so the body work just needs to be functional not pretty. I also didn't want to disconnect the A/C radiator as it is filled with R-12 refrigerant which you can't refill it and to replace the core support you need to disconnect it. You may also have some issues with the suspension from the 89 if you need any of it. Its cool you have the body parts, they should work fine. -Todd
