Injector Problems

12 Valve in 3rd Gen

It lives!!!

Finally got my Crew Cab project going! Actually, I started it up about three weeks ago, but have really only begun driving it on a daily basis about a week or so. Still have alot of little things I'm going to do to it... . and big things like paint :)

If anyone has questions about the conversion feel free to give me a shout... I went into this pretty much green and have learned alot. Also, thanks to you who gave me advice and helped me out (Earl Kann, bgilbert, and others).

I'm going to try and post some pics:

Looks great! Oo. Oo. Glad to hear that you got it going.

I still don't have the plastic parts back on my column either. :D

Mine's in the shop for a new injection pump. :(

I saw one sweet looking 2nd gen crew cab today on RT23 north of Circleville Ohio. It was red and had a matching red cap and fiberglas running boards on it. Whoever stretched it and added the back doors did a really nice job. I couldn't tell if it was a CTD or not but it sure looked good. Two guys appeared to be going hunting somewhere South of there as they were towing a 4 wheeler behind it. I tried to catch up and talk to them but thy were already on the road running south when I got turned around.

Are you going to try and do power windows and locks on the back two doors?

Ben

Probably not, at least not any time soon. I do have alot of grandiose plans for the interior though... we'll see how they pan out. I have all the grey interior plastics, headliner, carpet, buckets, etc. out of my parts truck. I'm going to take the headliner to a upholstery shop and see if they can section a piece in the middle of it to make it the right length for the Crew Cab (donor was a Club Cab). Same for the carpet... . I'm going to try and find one in the bone yards with decent grey carpet to make it work for the Crew.

Then I like to install all the platic trim so it does not look so spartan. Also, I need to lay down some Dynamat or some other type of sound deadener on the floor. Lots of little things to make it more "comfortable".

thanks! Yeah, I need to put the plastics on the column... . bunch of little knick-knacks still to do! Seems to run good though. I'm going to order the Stan's Headers 4" exhaust next week.

Looks really good HSchroen, the dash especially. Is that a red crew cab in the background? What style mirror are you gonna end up with?

I'm sure I'll be asking questions soon. Just need another vehicle to drive before I pull the gas 360 out of the crew and start the conversion. I felt bad today, I actually had to put some money into the gasser, new t-stat, and now heater core as I still don't have good heat after a 195* stat   .

Thanks! Yes, thats another '85 Crew in the background... . I'm trying to unload it if anyone is interested. Shes got a rough body but rust-free Arkansas truck. Feel free to ask any questions... as you know I went into this pretty green and had to figure out a bunch of stuff on my own. I have alot of plans for mine... . including alot of small customization/updating as time allows. I'm going to go with the later model mirror like on the pass. door. I'm also considering trying to convert to some late model things like the cargo light/third brake light combo that the newer trucks come with (may have to use a Ford piece?), converting to later model door handles, etc. Stuff to make it look kind of newer and make people wonder what year it is! :)

That white truck looks great. Where is a good place to find a crew cab to convert?I really want something with 4 doors, and already have a 92 D250 club cab that I could use to convert over to a crew cab provided it isn't super hard to do. Is it really hard to convert to diesel power with a complete donor truck like i have?Any help would be appreciated. I live in Massachusetts.

there have been quite a few '85 Crew Cab's on Ebay lately... there are a couple on there right now matter of fact. You can also try the government auction sites like listed in the previous pages in this thread. I'm selling the red Crew Cab you can see in the background of one of my pictures :)

As far as how difficult the conversion is... I guess that is kind of relative to whom your asking. I personally found it to be very time intensive. It took me 4 months of working on it one or two days a week. It was certainly more than I anticipated. On the other hand, I had no prior Dodge truck experience or diesel experience and had to learn some things along the way. I was also working in adverse conditions (i. e. no lift, bad lighting, no air tools  , etc. ).

Mostly though it is a bolt-in deal... but there is alot to swap. Since you have a donor already, parking them side by side and doing the swap will make it infinitely easier.

Thanks for the input. How much do you want for the red one you are selling? Is it a long bed or short bed?4WD,or 2wd?How is the body on it?How is the interior?Any more pics? Thanks again.

I'd agree with Hans assesment. Take a look through this forum for the crew cab build threads. Looks like mine may have fallen back a few pages, try searthing for my username if you don't see it.

Definetely took longer than I expected. There wasn't anything that was too awfully difficult. There are a few odds and ends that you may not have thought of switching out, so don't get rid of anything till your done, that is if you can manage to have two trucks hanging around in pieces. :D

hey there im new here i signed up for this crew cab thread live in vic canada doing the 78 crew 4x4 short box cummins swap rite know, things bolt right to gether (thanks dodge) keep up the swaps
