I cant go to kalif ornia. I'd be a criminal there just for doing what I do here in Texas lawfully. I feel sorry for people that are stuck there.

If the CHP (or CARB?) perform a roadside smog emission check and catch someone with altered or removed smog equipment they'll go berzerk with joy. Truck will be impounded and owner/driver will receive a stack of tickets, perhaps be arrested.

KA is loonyland.

Harvey - the Texas heat has warped your brain, LOL!

Please document your statements with some documentation - as in "facts", rather than your biased opinions.

BTW - regarding your original post -
Do you suppose Cummins just tosses in the towel - and doles out the dough?
If so - a lot of states that are hurting for money - like TEXAS - would be right in line!

Cummins must have as much legal muscle as CA - and wouldn't just pay up - - unless they got caught red-handed.
*If* Cummins is "innocent" - the company could certainly tie the issue up in the courts for a lot of years - in any state!

Twit,

If you don't like my biased opinions don't read them.

And BTW, the TX economy is perhaps the strongest in the nation. We don't abuse companies with excessive regulations to extort money from them in support of idiot lib causes. That is just one of the reasons why so many businesses have moved from KA to TX in the last 20 or 30 years.

As I said, the only good thing about Calif is the weather! The traffic sucks, it is to costly to live there, to many people and it is has the worst state government! When the whole thing slides into the ocean we will have beach front property here in Arizona!

Ummmm, . . . your avatar says, Sioux Falls, SD.

So many of you have these harsh opinions of this once beautiful state and sadly, they are right on the money. The weather is second to none. But the liberals and their "scorched earth" policies make it worse every year. Pray for us...

They are fine tuning their ways of destruction and when this state is nothing more than a steaming carcass, they will just move on. Since there is nothing to the west of us, they will heading your way. Everyone to the north and east, you better get ready. It is coming your way...

KA is indeed a beautiful state with incredible sights, entertainment, etc. It was once a great economy with wonderful opportunity as well. It's sad that liberalism, feminism, gay and lesbian rights, environmentalism, multi-culturalism, socialism, race-based redistribution, and all the other sickness took root and grew.

I fear as you warned the creeping sickness that all that nonsense entials as it infects the rest of the nation.

It's already infecting Nevada. California is a true natural wonder but it is quickly being ruined. We used to go over the hill pretty frequently but we try to stay out a much a possible. Sad.

Screw Kalifornia - - - when we retired I told my wife we would tour the whole USA in our RV - - - except Kalifornia - - we would not step foot in Kali - - for ALL the above reasons
You're missing out on one of the most beautiful states in the USA. Cops won't bother you. You're dumping money into the economy and not sucking it dry like a lot of the residents. After Labor Day,all is well. The mobs go back to school and work(if they are employed,of course:)).

Zonies flock here by the thousands to escape the oppressive heat of their hometowns. They too will return soon. It's all good.

It's always good to read a childish response from someone who sees everything from the hate-American-business perspective.

I wonder why modern medicine has produced so many wonderful treatments and cures? Many diseases that once made many very ill or even killed them have been eliminated. Wonder why.

Your the man Harvey! The wit in your replies is priceless and never fails to brighten my day.

Thanks John. I'm glad you can chuckle at my comments. A few are enraged by my comments.

I see things very much the from the viewpoint as you. I am thankful that we can still freely speak our mind in this country without fear of retribution. The few might wake up someday!:-laf

Yep, me too. There is even an occasional TDR member who doesn't like my opinions and attempts to have them silenced.

My wife had breast cancer in Feb 2011 & I agree with Harvey. 10 to 20 years ago she would have had major problems as it is she came out great thanks to modern medical medicine.

I di not read every post. I am replying to a few. I can understand you may have a great distaste for the regulations in CA. I have no problem with that, there are outlined steps to get those changed. What bothers me on some of these posts is that Cummins entered into a legal agreement that stipulated steps they were bound by law to take. They freely chose to enter that agreement. When they then failed to live up to their "promise" they were fined. Pretty simple. You want to fight the rules, go for it, I support you. You want to complain that someone is fined when they agree to do something and then don't follow thorough? Maybe this is the larger problem in our society of "we only follow the laws we like". Everyone can be self-righteous, because they have the laws they like.
OK, I'll quit rambling

Harvey,

Tried to cut and paste from the report but was unable.

The info causing my question was:

CARB, working with U. S. EPA, discovered this most recent offense during an investigation regarding delivery of approximately 570,000 diesel engines without exhaust aftertreatment devices between 1998 and 2006, a violation of the Clean Air Act

Does this apply to engines found in 2500/3500 series pickups? If so I am reading this to mean there is no such thing as 50 state legal without some type of cat or other pollution control device in the exhaust system.

Drew,

I don't know. I am not aware of the details of the issue. I have not owned a Dodge-Cummins earlier than 2001 and have never registered one in KA. From comments read in TDR over the years I thought that some late '90s Gen II Rams were required to have CAT converters and some were not.

I don't know the details of the fine but would not be surprised to learn that Cummins decided it was cheaper and easier to simply roll over to KA's radical demands, pay the fine, and continue minding their business which is manufacturing and selling quality diesel engines. They could have figured they couldn't win in a KA kangaroo court of libs, handout seekers, and illegal immigrants on a jury.
