Steve;

We're currently installing a Road Relay package on a production order powered by Cummins C+ CNG engines. I was planning to give a report here once we complete the I&CO (Installation & Check-Out).

An upcoming order will use both Road Relay and a Pyro Alarm from Hewitt Industries. The Hewitt system adds high and low temp indicators (2 LEDs) along with a back pressure alarm for catalyzed muffler eshaust systems.

Don't know what it will provide. We haven't done the initial I&CO. This thing should be able to post any data from the J1939 bus. The reason exhaust temp isn't available is that a pyro isn't tied into the J1939 data collection. It should be able to give the following items we can get from the J1939 bus with insite:

coolant temp

IAT

oil pressure

Manifold pressure

Engine RPM

Vehicle Speed (requires data link from transmission)

Boost pressure

Here's 3 things specific to the C8. 3 CNG engine only:

fuel pressure

exhaust back pressure

oxygen level

I'll have to step through it and see what is there.

Steve, et al (and everyone else);

Well, Road Relay gives a lot of data, but fuel pressure is not one of them. Road Relay can collect data from existing engine and transmission sensors.

If you're still interested, send me an <a href=mailto:4ericksons2@home.com?subject=Road%20Relay>email</a> and I'll send you a User's Guide in MS word format.

edit: I fixed my email link. My error and cannot blame the vBoard S/W that usually messes with my &lt;html&gt; tags.

I am currently working with Cummins Tech Support to figure out why mine is not getting correct readings. Volts, Vehicle speed and temp readings are correct. Fuel used, Boost, ECM vehicle milage, inst economy and other readings are not correct. Cummins thinks that it may be a bad software load in the ECM. No real answers yet.

As for the Security feature, it is not available for the Dodge applicaiton at this time.

My Humble Opinion about the Road Relay for the Dodge is this:

Cummins does not seem to have very much support for this applicaiton and it makes it hard to resolve problems. I also see where a flash done by the DC dealership could effect the operations of the Road Relay and the dealership is not responsible to correct the problem nor is Cummins. This is a major concern to me that Cummins had no answer.

Another concern is BOMBS. BOMBS will effect the accuracy of some of the readings. Due to the problems I am currently having

I am unable to provide any additional info on this at this time.

I am still trying to justify the cost versa benifit gained. Most of the critical functions are already taken care of with the factory instrumentaion. EGT and Fuel preasure is not monitored by this so you still have to buy additional gauges to monitor. The maintenance scheduling, trip modes, and error code display are nice and for some may be the only justification need.

To sum this up, I do not know if there are enough additional critical functions that are monitored to justify the cost. I other concern is support. DC says it is not their product and Cummins says they cannot touch the ECM. It is going to be interexting to see if they are going to be able to fix my problem or point to DC as the problem. I will let you know. Sorry for the long post

BatMan;

I think your <em>fueling box</em> may have something to do with giving you bad readings at the RR4 system. Even if you used a Pro-link or PC with insite the readings would be the same.

Boost, EGT, and fuel pressure is only available from remote equipment and will give accurate readings to the BOMBed whereas the RR does not give any except boost on on non fooled ECM.

I feel RR is best left for Fleet operations.

Fixed my <a href=mailto:4ericksons2@home.com?subject=Road%20Relay>email</a> in the previous post and added here, too. I still have the user's guide on MSWord if you want a copy.

I ran with the PE Comp Completely out of the vehicle for over two weeks and the readings did not change. I got a call Friday from Cummins. The want me to pull the RR4 out and sned it back to them to recalibrate. What a pain. If this works then all is good. If it does not then my concerns about interaction with DC PCM program and RR4 may be confirmed. I will let everyone know what happens. I think it will be at least a week probably two.
