Dash Pod or A-pillar

I want to install gauges but have not choosen between a dash pod or A-pillar. I am leaning towards dash pod but have never seen one. Does A-pillar obstruct any vision?

Well to be honest best way to decide, finr a truck in your area with A Pillar gauges, and try to find one with a dash pod. Or just order the dash pod and when you look at a truck with A Pillar gauges set the pod on the dash... ... . and compare right then and right there. Don't like the dash mount. . send it back.

Take a look at Brandon's Installs and this may help a little. I went with the Autometer Dash Pod P/N: 15002.



Like Kat recommened, try to see some others or order both and send the one you don't like back. I looked at three differnt installations before I settled on the center dash pod. The Pillar Pods are nice, but I just didn't like the "closeness" of the gauges.

I much prefer the dash mount though I am guilty of both (just ran out of room). The pillar gauges are too close to my face and block some visibility. The dash pod allows you to keep your eyes on the road while glancing at the pointer positions.



This might be a different story if you prefer the digital gauges though.

as far as visibility goes, the A-pillar on our trucks is pretty big to start with, and I don't think the pillar mounted gages make it any worse.

Had a dash pod and just moved them to a pillar setup. The first gens are pretty rough riding and the gauges were taking a beating on top of the dash. Is going to take some getting used to. had the three gauge dash pod, only put a 2 gauge piller unit in. Have boost and Pyro, Tach will get mounted in a seperate unit.

A-pillar

Jeepthing, have had A-pillar mount for about a year now and I don't notice any more blindness than that wide OEM cover anyway. If your gauge pods were rotated toward windshield I could see a problem, if turned more toward door its fine. Here is a pic of My a-pillar setup. I was kind of skeptical about the a-pillar at first but I like them alot. Easy to see and not in the way at all

I'm tall and I sit way back. The angle of the pillar mount means it further increases the blind spot on the corner. This is not a problem on the highway but is a potential killer for jaywalkers in town. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go with the dash mount.

I have the triple guage pillar mount and don't have problems with it now, although at first I would catch the corner of the plastic becuase I didn't have it installed tight... .



I like the clean dash look, but since I am lloking to add more guages, I will have to put 'em there next.

Just ordered the pillar mount so the gauges won't have to sit on the dash in the hot sun.

I mostly agree. I used the dash pod to keep the boost/EGT gauge farther from my eyes (it's easier to focus). I mounted it as far to the left on the dash as I could. It doesn't interfere with visibility.



Some day I'll build a small color plasma heads-up display that reflects off the bottom of the windscreen.

Thank You for your input . I will probly go with a dash pod from the great information given. Now the big choice of deciding on gauges which I know will be my preference.
