on the web site it says it $129. So if I send in my Edge Comp, will they upgrade it for $129? Anybody know? It is the same box right? I would like to have something with a little extra for when Ii do start upgradeing. I still have not connected that pump wire too... . Can you say that BFC???;) :D :p I have gone for almost 3 months now.

Anyways, does anybody know if they do this???

AJB

Do you know what the upgrade actually does? If you have a "Regular" COMP (not a DD version) then I doubt DD can do anything for you. Rather then ask here, why not email Keith? He'll get back to you usually within the same day.

I would say wait and save your $129 anyhow, just the regular COMP has more power then you know what to do with. I mean you haven't even tapped the pump wire yet..... plus if you wait and save it, then when you get "used" to the current power level you can upgrade it.

Just make sure you know what your buying is all I am saying.

Hey I was able to wait 5 whole days before I hooked it up. That's pretty damn good by my standards:p ;)

Kat,

I am going to be chasing you timeslips once I get rid of this warrenty, so I think thats why your telling me not to get it!:D ;)

The reason I aasked is that the COMMP begians to defuel with the rest of the ECM at a certian point, and this says no defueling. It was just a thought.

Has anybody noticed a big reduction in the cost of these boxes since they first came out? I think they are starting to become cheaper!:D

I have DD's UFM with the Competition upgrade... . What I can tell you is the truck no longer defuels above 2700 in level 5. The boost gauge just stays buried all the way to 3200 RPM:D. As for is there a difference I haven't been on a dyno to see the actual #'s but my guess is it would make your truck slightly quicker. Now that said, the EGT's do get hotter without the defueling if your foot is on the carpet.

Hope this helps,

Doug S.

TX, yes, we can update your Edge Comp to a DD Ultimate with the Competition programming. Let me try to explain the differences:

The DD Ultimate has major defueling available in each power level, under smoke adjustment levels 1-3. Because we assume the Ultimate boxes will be used with larger injectors, we are much more aggressive in attempting to control smoke than Edge needs to be. It also has less aggressive timing than the Comp. This is something Lawrence wanted for the higher HP trucks.

With the Ultimate in sub-level 1 of any power setting, you can make a Stage 3/HX-40 truck smoke like a stocker... that's how much control there is there.

The power levels all taper off additional fueling above 2700rpm, to keep EGT's in check. The Competition program contains the same smoke levels/adjustments and power, but will not defuel above 2700rpm. This equates to almost 50hp more at 3100rpm than the standard programming. For the racers, this is nice to hold on to the power all the way to the shift.

We can upgrade either an original Ultimate box or the Edge Comp with our programmed chip. Contact me directly if you need more info or want to get it done.

Many times you have said your on a budget, both you and your girlfriend being college students. If you wanna chase my timeslips by all means have at it, I'll even help you (ecspecially if and when I move down there). The thing is once you get above 400hp your at the easy to break parts level. Like I said save the DD upgrade for when you get "used" to the power, then it will be a nice cheap easy upgrade you'll feel good about.

And Keith explained it pretty well. Since your on a budget and what not, just make sure you know what your buying from here on out.

Edge Comp Question

I was wondering just how much horsepower is lost between the smoke adjustment levels one through five on each setting? I know the smoke is less, but how much power is lost? Has anyone done the dyno on this? If so, I would appreciate the info. Thanks in advance.

Skunk:

The power difference (all low-end) is noticeable. When I got my DD UPM (which replaced my DD TTPM, aka EZ), I started out by running it on Power 1/Sub 1. Then I moved it to Power 2/Sub 1, and now I'm up to Power 3/Sub 2. That's where I leave it most of the time.

Smoke in 3/2 is there, but it's not as bad as with the EZ (I have DD3 injectors and an HX-40 too). Low-end is very good at sea level, but a little lacking when I'm visiting the gf in Reno (as I am right now). Trouble is, at 4800', it smokes quite a bit more, so I'm just dealing with it. I tend to try not to lay into it around town unless there's a specific reason.

I can also say that when you bump it up to 5/5, HOLY COW!! I have the Competition chip in mine too and it HAULS @$$. Heck, I've only used 5/5 once since I got the Comp chip put in, and I noticed it's quite a bit stronger than before.

It's also worth noting that with it set to 3/2, and with my current mods, and my truck weighing 8000 lbs with me in it, that's still enough power to outrun a modified Civic on the freeway. ;)

5X5 is so Hot

Got my DDU this morning. As best I can tell at 5X5 you can wind your Cummins up till the fuel system reaches its max delivery potential. I backed out at 3250.  :D :D
