i'm posting this for my father... .

truck is a 2002 2500 auto with about 60,000miles. he said he has a dead pedal. truck wont acellerate. he says it comes and goes. truck is all stock except 275 rv injectors and a edge chip.

we are going to replace the fuel filter today and see if that works. any other opinions are welcome... he's towing his boat from key largo to fort meyer then back up to connecticut. it's about a 1800 mile ride.

I had the same thing.

Intermittent dead pedal, but when it ran fine, well it ran the way it is suppose to. Same year and approx miles as mine.

I'm going to say injector pump, as was the case with me. Codes will tell the tale though.

Yep, for whatever reason, there was(is) a trend of the 2002 to loose the injection pump around 50-60000 miles, normally when the weather got warmer though, there were a couple of threads about that. Lost mine right @55000, it's replacement has been running strong . See what codes you have.

My 2002 had the deal pedal and I tried everything to redemy it, I did the ground wire for the APPS, I changed the fuel filter, cleared the codes and ended up replacing the transfer pump with an AirDog... ..... one week later I put a VP44 from bluechip diesel on it. Anyway, it runs GREAT now!!!

If the injection pump is dead, then you might want to consider checking the lift pump, too. If that went out and stopped supplying fuel to the inj. pump, it might be the cause of that failure. If so, then it might happen again without replacing the lift pump, too. If you make it back to CT without finding the problem, let me know. I have a Smarty that we can read your codes with. If you make it within a day of CT and can't tow anymore, get in touch. I can come pull the boat for you the rest of the way, just has to be on a weekend.

icman95 makes a good point. My lift pump was running inconsistent when it took out the VP44. So you couldn't even tell that is what caused it.

Compared to the cost of a VP44, a lift pump and gauge are just insurance.

I had an intermittant dead pedal and the dreaded hunting problem around that milage. I was on a 300 mile trip to Lake Tahoe and back. When I finally got home I did the apps reset cleaned all the battery and engine grounds. Problem was fixed for a while then the hunting came back. Did the rewire and grounded the APPS that worked for a while then it came back again. I finally put a 12. 00 noise filter on the orange wire with the blue tracer on it by the pcm and the transmission and pedal are back to normal. The truck now has 167000 on the clock and still running strong never did replace the injection pump and I am running a stock lift pump (80000 miles now) still holding 16 lbs at idle and 12 at wot. The dead pedal has been gone for 100000 miles now.

Well, since I was constantly dealing with the hunting problem and I had the dead pedal and cleanning the grounds seemed to help I decided to start searching the forums and I stumbled on a post about dead pedals and hunting transmissions and one of the posts there had a link to purchase this noise filter and I did. The company is somewhere in central California and I have been trying to find that post again to save the address for that filter and I have not located it yet. I know there are some more expensive ones on here that do the same thing. I just really couldn't afford to pay that much for one so I looked until I found a cheaper one. I could swear I put in Hunting in the search box in the forum searches but I can't find that one again.

Ok here you go found it finally it was a link in another post. Dodge Ram Cummins 24V Truck Converter Clutch Cycling Repair. you will probably have to cut and paste it into the address bar. Good luck.

Just read the page you linked to for the noise filter. What a great find. I have to believe that guy spent a bunch of time thinking about it. Good thing he did.

It was the only thing that has so far fixed my problem. I just deal with the delayed downshift by pushing the OD button in or pulling the shifter into second if I can't wait for the downshift.
