the jardine exhaust is so noisy in the cab w/ windows up that you cant turn the radio up loud enough to hear it ( really sucks ). Itslouder in the truck than outside.
The other half is going to start removing some of my body parts if I dont get it fixed. She says that 1,500 mi of that noise is too much. Every thing in the cab rattles: headliner, trip console, dash, floor, back seat, windows, door panels and insides.

I will be in S. Tacoma untill 10-19.

edit::: the egt in NMand CO was 1200 max, UT,OR 1000 and WA 900. I thought that was interesting. MPG@ 75-85 was 10. 2 and further north w/ lower limit 65-70 was 10. 2. Never got below 60 mph an any pass with DD1's only ( no va ) grossing 17,850. Rancho 9000s rode great.

Jnutter... call me. I know of several places for you to go in this area, and would love to meet ya.

The Power Shop in Enumclaw is first rate, as is Stan's Headers in Auburn. The NW Punk is working at the power shop now.

Wow! Did you install the muffler with the system or an aftermarket? I installed this system on Saturday and it is much quieter than the 3" Walker muffler I had. The Jardine has a nice deep tone to it. I can hear nothing in the cab with the window up and very little with them down.

I feel your exaust, cause I cant hear anymore myself. I have even undercoated the cab, and installed waffle insulation foam behind the back seat in hopes to reduce the droan of this system. Its not to bad up till 2050 thu 2500 rpm but that puts me at freeway crusing speed at the loudest wave cycle. Has anyone got any ideas to reduce the vibration pulses this system is sending into the cab, would a straight pipe be better, no resonating chamber to vibrate, this vibrates so bad as to make the overhead console look like a vibrator? Differnet muffler, have I got something installed wrong, it is a little close to the frame 1/2" clearance at the down pipe, if the engine is under load does it rotate enough to allow the frame and pipe to touch?

Hey Fellas:
My 4-inch pipe on my 1993 is so loud in the cab my eyeballs rattle! the more the merrier!!!yeeeee haaaaaaww!!

JNutter,

I installed my Jardine on September 28th. The sound is a very pleasant deep throaty diesel sound, even with the windows down. When I ordered mine, I talked to Matt at Jardine, he mentioned that we use to have a choice of a system without a muffler, or a short muffler and a 30" Magnaflow. He said that he will only sell the 30" Magnaflow muffler on his system now. The reason for this is because of many complaints about loudness on the systems without a muffler and on the short muffler complaints of a whistle.

Charliep had the same complaint that you do in a previous post. I asked him what kind of muffler he had gotten and he never replied.

What kind of muffler did you get? Is it the 30" Magnaflow?

I have to agree with Chaw and TR7110, mine sounds very good and definiately not too loud.

Sound like you are on the road, I don't know if you have called Jardine about this, but I'm sure that they would help you if you could wait until you get home. I can understand if you can't wait that long.

Good luck, Big Bob

JNutter,
I'm not sure if Evan Beck still has the 4" muffler from Stan's that he took off his last truck. Maybe you could buy that on off him and have Stan's install it on yours.

To everyone else,
The only other thing I can think of,is doing what someone (Steve McD?) on the TDR had tried out before... install a section of flex tubing in the down-pipe. He said there was less or no drone. I have noticed big rigs have the flex tubing in their down-pipes,and I assume it may be done for that reason.

My jardine system is also a little loud at the 2000-2500 rpm ,it is a very deep base sound,I considered putting the cat back in line but haven't yet. I don't think it's all that loud but as I get older "quiter" is better,I'm not blaming jardine as it is a quality system just louder than I would like,if there was one thing I could change about the Cummins it would be to make it quiter also.

tried posting this earlier but on borrowed puter and even worse is aol.

Took a ride to the power shop and was impressed w/their facility and crew. they were booked up w/ work but said they have had the same thing with a few Jardine ex. They did have the angle iron and cut me 2' and 3' pieces and only charged me $2. 50. tomorrow i will clamp this to the straight pipe section to dampen the resonant sine wave being amlified by the pipe. the exhaust tone at the tail pipe is not the problem, it is a nice deep purr. The problem is the length of the straight pipe is tuned to the freq. of the exhaust vibration. Both ends of the pipe aresolid and dont vibrate, the center of the pipe is vibrating at about 1/16". ( No i'm not going to use the calculater to find out the harmonic and base frequency ). this oscillation of the center of the pipe is acting like the string on a banjo and amplifying the sound perpendicular to the pipe which just happens to be under the cab. the angel iron clamped to the pipe should stop the sine wave oscillations and stop the transmission of sound .

got your phone # when is a good time to call.
Im on a borrowed puter that is on aol and it is giving me fits.

ive tried to post 4 tines to day and it lockes up and crashes when i submit.
The straight pipe is resonating and amplifying the exhaust pulses or engine vibration and the sound is transmitted perpendicular to the straight section of the exhaust pipe between the down pipe and 30" muffler. by clamping a 3' piece of angle in 3 or 4 places on this pipe will change the resonant frequency of the pipe to a freq. much higher than the engine is producing and thus squelch the noise. I will do this tomorrow. picked up the angle at the Power Shop today.

Have you retightened the clamps or had all the connections welded? I think welding all the joints up would help with the kind of vibration you are getting.

Jnutter... I will be home most all day on saturday or sunday. A couple of NW BOMBers are coming over on saturday morning to help me with the top pieces of siding on my barn. If ya call and/or drove over then, you could meet a few of us. I will send directions to your email address.

Great news! I will be welding (stainless rod only)a couple of pieces of angle on asap. Did you install only on the straight pipe prior to the muffler and on the muffler itself?

Thanks for being the test subject for the rest of us!!!!!

OK !!! here is the results.

3' of one inch angle, 4 - 4" muffler clamps
The muffler clamps were too short to go around the pipe and inverted angle iron ( would suggest 1/2" angle ). ground slots in one leg of angle about 2" in from each end and approx 1foot in from each end. clamped the angle on to the straight pipe and tightend . Presto Chango no more exhaust drone in cab. Boy !!!! what a relief now i dont have to worry about missing any body parts.
Still some drone from the muffler or tail pipe that is comming through the uninsulated back of the cab behind the rear seat but oh what difference. . I will get some 3/8 all thread and make some 7" clamps for the muffler . The muffler is 21-1/2" between end welds so i will have to cut the 24" piece I have to fit.
more info when i get the muffler squelched.

I have a short bed and only have one straight pipe, I think the lb has 2 straight pipes, the 3' piece of angle ( 1/2" is adequate ) is shorter than the straight pipe between the down pipe and the muffler so I centered it on the pipe. I have not done the muffler yet . There is still the drone frome the axel back when standing on drivers side but not from axle forward.
This is whats her names vacation with her family so I have to squeeze every thing in between their doins. the puter is avail able very early am & late pm.
I have not been able to get under the truck and positivly absolutly pin it down to the muffler but it seems to be eminating from the rear of the muffler or the tail pipe over the axle
