Flare Shifting?

I posted several months ago about my truck stalling out when it stops randomly. It will idle rough for 2-5 seconds then stall out. It will do this 5 or 6 times then it will drive normal for a month or so. Then the problem will repeat. It will never throw a code while stalling. I had it at the dealer and had the shop Forman riding along with me and replicated the issue 5 times with him in the truck. At first they said it was the TC. Then when I picked the truck up the diesel tech said that he thought the transmission filter had a hairline crack in it and was not allowing enough fluid to pass through causing it to stall. SO instead of replacing the TC they replaced the trans filters and charged me 300 dollars. 3 weeks later it was stalling again. This past time I was pulling my 8k travel trailer on a curvy back road with my 2 kids and my wife. The truck decided to stall at a rolling 20MPH in a sharp curve and almost caused me to run off the road. I went back to the dealer yesterday with video of the truck stalling out. I called the dealer today to get an update and service advisor said "well its not throwing any codes so we don't know what to do." I am seriously about to lose my cool with the dealer. Do you guys think I would get any support from FCA on this or should I drive 70 miles to the next Ram dealer and start over.

Thank you guys in advance for any input or help.

Back pages of the owners manual should have contact info to get FCA involved. Dealers are mostly "independent" and represent themselves 1st. Getting FCA involved opens up more options and factory resources for repair including using a different dealer. You can request FCA reimburse you for the filters as you were not requesting maintenance, but, a repair for stalling. Videos like you are doing and document everything: Dates taken in etc. Make sure each time you visit they open a work order. To be fair sometimes a problem goes beyond the dealer tech training and flowchart expertise. This is where the factory can step in. If all else fails look into Lemon Law and this is why you document every visit.

I had the same stalling problem in my old 96 f-350 diesel when the transmission failed. It might be worth the drive to another dealership.

Did they ever check for transmission codes?

I am new at posting things and to this site also I've had similar problems and I'm going to throw something out there that may sound strange but check it out look up TIMP module it is D electrical distribution for the entire truck there have been class-action lawsuits and I just had to have mine replaced after going through many parts including WIN module x2,reprogramming ECM a few times the truck even would stall sometimes just accelerating through an intersection it almost cost me two accidents, Chrysler Fiat Dodge they know about the problem and are trying to hide from it, PLEASE please check out TIPM module failures replacements and class action lawsuit

Once i lose faith in a dealer i never return. That faith can not be gotten back. I would try another dealer and document then lemon it if a repair is not made. That condition is just too serious to live with. Good luck.

Find a dealer that can do a data recording. If they select the right data points and you can duplicate the stall it can point them in the right direction or at least rule out what it isn't. In the dealers defense he doesn't have much to go on except feeling it stall. If the transmission filter sucks air it can cause a stall but only when stopped so that should have ruled out that as a possible cause. It could be running out of fuel (that doesn't throw codes), ignition could be cutting off (that doesn't throw codes as PCM thinks you shut off the key), EGR throttle plate could be closing (but I think the 14 has feedback to tell the PCM where it is). I'm sure there are other potential causes. Best to find the dealer that can data record and hope it happens enough to get some good data.

Welcome to TDR. Unfortunately the 14 does not have a TIPM. Nice try though.

I could very well be mistaken however I believe they're using some sort of the same module maybe a new or improved Version with the same software card please correct me if I'm wrong I'm just explaining what happen to me which sounds similar in away however, I appreciate not scolding me on my first post I hope I didn't give any bad information but I do believe that data recording would be the next step to find out if there is anything weird in the electrical or maybe the CAM BUS Circuit
They are still using the TIMP module, it's basically the fuse box with all the relays it's the nervous system for your truck the brain is the ECM TCM and they send signals to the TIPM module via the CAM. And believe me I will look for a link to show you what I found online about Dodge ram and there totally integrated power management module failures and recalls there's even some listed on NTSB. Which you can make the transmission get into learning mode cause the inability for you to shift your truck after it started because of ignition lock out losing memory on WIN module anything electrical it can easily mess up including term vehicle off and going around the corner it's just crazy,,,

Go take a look on the "other" Cummins forum. Someone just went through this identical problem and come to find out the turbo need to be replaced. All is well for him now.

FCA has left the tipm-they have gone back to a simple fuse and relay system with some non replaceable that are internal. There is no logic happening inside this box,it only supplies voltage when and where it is told by the other controllers, and switches

Thank you all for your responses. After a long discussion with the GM at the dealer he is getting engineers from FCA involved. I will keep the thread updated for future references incase anyone else is having this problem.
