Dealer Oil Change - Looking for opinions

I recently purchased a pre-owned 2013 Ram (See Sig.). I found the truck at a Chevrolet Dealership. After reading a ton here on the Forum, one of the most talked about things is Filter, Filter, Filter. This morning I thought to look under the wheel well and see what oil filter was on the truck. Sure enough, it's an AC Delco. Who knows what oil is in it.

The truck has had about 1K miles put on it with this oil change based on the Carfax mileage when traded in. I do know, and have met, the previous owner and he only used Rotella and he works at the Ram Dealership so it always had a Mopar oil filter. The truck has 78K miles.

Should I, Or would you, go ahead and change this unknown oil and AC Delco filter? Or, wait and change it later?

I would change it right now so that I knew what was in it going forward. I'm sure that a thousand miles hasn't hurt it any but it needs to come out. God only knows what they put in it for oil......

I would change all fluids, just so I know what's in my truck. That's what I have been doing over the last
few weeks.
Got mine with 34,500 on it and without solid proof of what's been done, I'm doing it myself.
So far, all new Oil, filter, both fuel filters, drained the transmission and rear diff and Air Filter. And I'm Not done yet!

I was in the same situation when I bought my 06 used from a GMC/Buick dealership. Cheapo oil filter on it and again, who knows what oil. I changed it immediately.

Isn't this what the GM service dept use when doing oil changes????

Not challenging your knowledge on this. Just wondering why A.C. Delco is worse than Mopar? Neither is stratopore equivalent

Because they are cheap garbage filters. Go to WalMart and buy one. Take it home and cut it open and you'll see why.

Exactly why I will Only use a Fleetguard oil filter. Cummins makes the engine & that’s what they use so its what I use.

He didn't. He traded the truck in where he worked for a Ram 3500. The Chevrolet dealership got it through a dealer swap.

I trust you and others in the know. It is a curious concept to me that an OEM filter would be bad. I did use Mopar a few times. But now it is exclusively Fleetguard and Amsoil (which are made by Donaldson )

I'd wait.. nothing wrong with AC filters, but it would be nice to know if they used 15W40 in the engine

I did not know the seller. The Carfax showed where the truck was sold, local dealership to me. It also showed where the truck had every service and inspection done at that same dealership. So, I called the dealer and asked who's truck it was. The service manager laughed and said, I know exactly who owned that truck, "You want to talk to him, He our diesel tech." That's how I met the previous owner.

I ordered two Fleetguard filters that will be here tomorrow. Sam's club has Rotella for $65.88 for the 6 gallon case. Planning to change the oil and filter tomorrow afternoon.

Sales dealers LIE all the time just to get the sale. That $50 was good insurance .
