Anybody got an idea if I can replace the OEM track bar bushings with Luke's Link bushings on the ground - - any suggestions or hints would be welcome - - - this is gonna' be one old man doin' it all - - -
There is a steering recall that is supposed to get rid of the D Wobble. They replace some steering links.
I've never had a "death wobble" or whatever it's called, but I did replace slightly worn BJs with Carli uppers and lowers at 101,000 miles. Now the truck has what I call "memory steer," which means the steering doesn't return to center at lower speeds.
In other words, the truck "hunts," or wants to keep turning in one direction or the other. Not a happy situation. If I'm not paying strict attention the truck could very quickly be in the ditch or over the center line. I emailed Carli over a month ago and have yet to hear back from them. The front end of the truck is very tight and I'm pleased with that, but it would be nice to know the "hunting" would go away.
Thanks guys - - - I think I will give it a try tomorrow if it isn't to hot!
Do not wait for it to get worse. Pull the tie rod end off at the pitman arm. Disconnect the steering stabilizer and while the tires are off the ground be sure you have no binding, odds are good it is the steering gear but get it fixed.
:-laf No there is not a recall to fix death wobble
