Christmas on the Prairie

There is a Standyne pump on mine. Is yours similar?

No, no external pump or lines at all. Everything is under the valve cover, other than the low pressure feed pump. It also appears to all be mechanical, no electronics that I can see.

That's interesting, I had not ever seen one. I am familiar with the Detroit type. It starts instantly, hot or cold, but it seems the rack is relaxed and starts at wide open throttle for a second. That bothers me some. Is that normal?
My John Deere 4440 starts like that - lots of smoke and winds up for just a couple of seconds. A little unnerving the first time I started it, but my research found it to be normal.

I'll add that my father has been mowing with our old lawn tractor sometimes 2 times a week. It's turned in to his "hobby" since mom passed. The only thing I have to do are the fields with the big tractor and the trimming on the banks. He does everything else.

We've got the nicest yard in the area guaranteed.

Pulling this thread up to let you all know that I finally actually purchased something

Pulled the trigger on a new John Deere X570. 24 HP Kawasaki. After going rounds and rounds with options, this was what my father was most comfortable with.

Here he is on his birthday present. Don't mind the look on his face. That's what he always looks like when someone spends money on something for him. LOL

Those Kawi motors, even the air-cooled, are good for lots of hours, and I assume they are still using the Kanzaki Tuff-Torq transaxles, which were also excellent. IIRC Kanzaki is division of Yanmar.

I'm not positive on the transaxle. I'll take some pics of it over the weekend and see if it looks familiar to you.
