DEF hard to find?

I was in Wal-Mart a few weeks back and was going to pick up a jug. None on the shelf but they go through it pretty quickly. Was in Home Depot last week and they had a sign on the register that DEF quantities were limited. Stopped at Wal-Mart a couple days ago and still none on the shelf. I asked the clerk in automotive and he said they had been out for a while. They did have a few of the Blue DEF so I picked up one just in case. Hate spending double for the same stuff but thinking it might be like toilet paper last year.
Anyone else noticed short supplies?

I’m just under 1/2 a tank and haven’t filled up since September.

We’ve not had a problem getting it in bulk at the shop. We haven’t had a problem getting the 2.5 gallon “boxes” from our Rush Truck Center for our Service Trucks to carry, either.

near denver, wal mart, last 2x i went had no rotella ( any weight ) and no other diesel oil either. wal mart was also sold out online. home depot did have def last time i was there last week. im so glad the government is " on " the supply chain / empty shelf crisis. extreme sarcasm. cheers all !

No problems SO FAR with packaged DEF 2 1/2 gallon size..

However the following are giving me a real problem..

Any Rotella gallons
Delvac 15/40 gallons
Mobil 1 5W30 Qts
Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease Tubes
Mobil 75/90 Synthetic Gear Oil (5 gal pail)
Mobil 85/140 Synthetic Gear Oil (5 gal pail)
Mobil 50 Synthetic Trans Oil (Keg)
Mobil 85/140 Synthetic Gear Oil (Keg)
Delvac Bulk 15/40 (Sometimes I only get a partial fill)

I really wish our current administration would stop some other nonsense BS and seriously focus on the supply chain instead of a few feel good sound bytes, it is getting worse and will take a long time to correct itself…

I purchase all of my DEF in bulk at T/A and Petro, occasionally Love’s, and without any issues so far.

I also noticed the oil isle at Wal-Mart was a little thin. Costco still had lots in stock yesterday. I need to order another case for the truck, might just do it now.

Walmart near me was out of all DEF last week... I went another couple miles and filled up bulk DEF at QT truck stop. Was back in same Walmart yesterday and it was fully stocked. Motor oil had some empty spots at Walmart, but Tractor Supply had plenty gallon and 5-gallon pails.

China strikes again. DEF is just the beginning. Wait until spring when farmers can't afford to put their crops in the ground.
Several months out and it's already the talk of the town around here....
If the fertilizer shortage doesn't get resolved by spring things are going to get really ugly.

Other countries are now threatening imprisonment for stock piling, aka hoarding, of urea.

I hate to keep extra DEF around as it goes bad quick in our extreme heat. I filled up when the cool weather hit at a truck stop.

X2 on diesel oil in short supply.

Oil filters in short supply in stores here and some shortages even at dealerships. AMSOIL has gone Currently Unavailable for their oil filters.

Every shopping trip some shelf is bare and the rest are thin.

Online orders for a Walbro fuel pump is backorderd as an exception because they re-tooled the factory here.

RV parts like CO sensor that went EOL on me is 6-8 weeks backorder on the USA manufacture's website. Same with some other RV parts

Shipping things LTL is a nightmare 30 day delay to get it unloaded when it arrives at the terminal in Phoenix.

Early on, I bought a half dozen 2.5 gallon jugs and saved them. I fill a couple of them when on trips, using the pump at a truck stop. I used the refractometer to check the one I filled summer 2017 and one from summer 2019 and stored in the basement where they stay cool. Both are still at 32% although the earlier one does have some ammonia smell.

People really don’t understand just how bad it is. Our supply chain held up for almost two years but in the process has run itself dry.
Not as simple as “Getting those ships unloaded that are anchored off the shore of Long Beach!!”

1) Can’t unload anything if empty containers are clogging the pier. Only so much ground space and only can be stacked so high.
2) So a loaded container finally gets off the ship, now you need a truck and a chassis. Whoops, all the chassis are under loaded containers awaiting appointments at a Warehouse…oh, nobody brought that up did they??
3) Chassis and container make it to the warehouse, Whoops…you need an appointment. Warehouse has no floor space and the crew is under Covid related restrictions and / or lack of crew in general…
4) Finally gets unloaded, now has to wait for an outbound carrier to take it to the next point in the distribution chain. Whoops, shortage of trucks and drivers. Let’s try LTL!! Whoops, same problem there…LTL is short on help, docks are clogged.

This was a quick read on Urea. Doesn't make sense why there would be a shortage, sounds like it able to be mfg at scale.

This was pretty interesting comment at the end.

Although urea is used widely in agriculture, current urea production is decidedly not “green”. Ammonia and urea production consume >2% of the world’s energy and emit more CO2 than any other industrial process.

I don’t think they would dare to introduce them right now. From what I read it seems that they are stacking the containers higher to maximize the ships payload.
A 15 minute emergency engine shutdown (such as a phantom low oil pressure alert) allows the ship to turn sideways, start to rock, break the restraints. When that happens the lowest containers collapse and the top ones go for a swim…it is happening too frequently now.

I also believe we have lost a lot of qualified ships crews globally. After being stranded on one of these floating tubs for over a year in some cases when their feet hit solid ground they quit. Period..

Went looking for some 15/40 T6, usually I order three gallons from Walmart, that was a no go . Don't need it quite yet will keep looking.

Do need some DEF ,and that's usually where I get it is Walmart, but haven't checked there lately .
