Another issue I have identified is “Brain Drain”..

Many experienced people are taking an early out, be it early retirement or in some cases a career change.

Who in their right mind wants to hunt for motor oil all day long while getting yelled at for not having any?? Now apply that to anything in short supply…

These are the people that know how to get things done and sadly there is no one to replace them..

Now the simplest issue takes three or four tries to resolve if it gets resolved at all…

This is happening at dealerships, vendors, OEM’s, Logistic’s, etc…not good…

And this sort of thing….OMG there are trucks parked on our street!!!!

Sadly: Old News. Just about everyone poo on truck drivers and have for a long time, closing truck stops, rest areas, and the idiotic thing of "No Engine Braking" signs showing up like a bad rash on grades 6% and over... When you are 18 and "pick a job" Truck Driving isn't an option till you are 21: by then you may have picked another career. At least it's an essential worker position. Some of our school teachers ought to be teaching how things get on their table so "thin skinned" people may bite their lip harder about trucking. Bad planning looks like in this article, but, they appear to be trying to solve the problem.

I have taken to thanking the "non-essential" workers for "showing up to work" anymore.

Everyone is forgetting the "Two week vacation" due to say quarantine from a pandemic going on. Some get more than one vacation including just from "exposure". Some don't make it, others on O2, and some take awhile to get their strength back. This round is hitting more people I know around here this time. It's really really bad here again. At least this time we "now" have better ways to treat it.

Some need a couple days to recover from the vaccine.

In the past some small businesses have completely closed up for two weeks due to most staff being sick.

Don't forget all the other manpower wasted on pandemic B.S. "It escaped from a level 4 biolab. A homemade cheetah print face mask is going to stop it..." Yeah all the time and manpower to take temperatures, test people, "put your mask on!", and deal with the Pandemic itself. Then the medical being overwhelmed...

Very few WWII survivors around and IMO only they experienced shortages like this.

People really don’t understand just how bad it is. Our supply chain held up for almost two years but in the process has run itself dry.
Not as simple as “Getting those ships unloaded that are anchored off the shore of Long Beach!!”

1) Can’t unload anything if empty containers are clogging the pier. Only so much ground space and only can be stacked so high.
2) So a loaded container finally gets off the ship, now you need a truck and a chassis. Whoops, all the chassis are under loaded containers awaiting appointments at a Warehouse…oh, nobody brought that up did they??
3) Chassis and container make it to the warehouse, Whoops…you need an appointment. Warehouse has no floor space and the crew is under Covid related restrictions and / or lack of crew in general…
4) Finally gets unloaded, now has to wait for an outbound carrier to take it to the next point in the distribution chain. Whoops, shortage of trucks and drivers. Let’s try LTL!! Whoops, same problem there…LTL is short on help, docks are clogged.

Are you starting to understand just how screwed it really is??
You left out the part where northern CA offered to help in regards to moving and relocation of empty containers with some teams of contractors, but (some) said contractors had trucks that fell outside the model year ranges that Long Beach wanted in their sand box.

And one last thing......real estate was attempted to be secured (leased or purchased) for some of these extra containers, then people near said real estate starting complaining as they didn’t want to see containers stacked up so high, even if it was on a temporary basis.

A fantastic read!

Never have any trouble finding DEF here in NC, but lots of truck stops near me, I only fill at the bulk pump. side note, I have a box of MOPAR Def they gave me when I bought the truck, forgot about it, found it, its in my shop, is it bad, should I toss it, (its a year old now).

I wouldn't spend $25 to save $13 for a new box of DEF...cheaper than that if you are buying bulk. So... that meter tells you its good today...but how long will it last after you put it in the truck...no way...toss it!

No issues with DEF yet, same as the others though....couldn't find any Rotella about a month ago. Read that it was a lingering issue from the Texas freeze issues last winter.
I ended up finding some at Home Depot......because I guess most people don't buy their oil from there.....it was the same price as WalMart...which is unheard of.

I was in Wal-Mart a few weeks back and was going to pick up a jug. None on the shelf but they go through it pretty quickly. Was in Home Depot last week and they had a sign on the register that DEF quantities were limited. Stopped at Wal-Mart a couple days ago and still none on the shelf. I asked the clerk in automotive and he said they had been out for a while. They did have a few of the Blue DEF so I picked up one just in case. Hate spending double for the same stuff but thinking it might be like toilet paper last year.
Anyone else noticed short supplies?

We ran out in Fairbanks a few months back.....September if I remember correctly. It was short lived and we had more in stock within a few weeks.

When was this , just checked Home Depot , you can’t even get it ordered and delivered to a store , nor any available here in a store here locally . Same with Walmart .
