Andy-dirt, nothing special had to be done after the install. I cleared the codes, cranked it up and went for a run. It reset the code for low pressure at the nozzle. However, the pump is self priming and the error cleared after a couple more starts and the ‘permanent’ error was gone the next day. So once installed, the system takes over from there.

if you do this yourself, you will need the def tank retainer ring tool. About $24 on Amazon. It is also used for fuel pump removal on all Dodges, Rams, Jeep’s, etc. also, check the lines good after the install. The outpu at the pump is hard to get seated and will blow off under pressure if the lock is not seated properly.

Thanks for the information. I ordered a new def pump and got the retainer ring tool the other day. I’m itching to get my truck back working. Thanks again.

When I drained the DEF tank. I just put a 5 gallon bucket under the tank and cracked the ring loose. The pump stayed in place but leaked and drained straight into the bucket.

Before removing the fluid line, put a plastic bag on the electrical connector. Use a bread tie to seal it as good as you can. Then put a sandwich bag over that, and seal it as well. Don’t get any Def on that connector or you will be replacing the harness soon.

Loosening the lock ring is actually pretty hard. It took a breaker bar and a cheater pipe to get it off. Make sure the tool is seated good before you put the pressure to it. Getting the pump out of the tank requires a little twisting and turner for it to finally be able to drop out.

When reinstalling the fluid line to the pump, it will slide on easy enough. BUT, ensure that the line is ALL THE WAY ON THE NIPPLE. Otherwise, it will blow DEF everywhere. Yes, that happened to me. I was sure it locked but I was wrong.

Also, before installing the bottom cover, make sure to rinse everything down good.

There is a good video on you tube that goes there the procedure. I recommend you watch it a couple of times before you do the job. It will help. I will be glad to PM you my number if you think you might have any questions.

Finally, the first day of the new pump, it seems to have extremely high DEF consumption. Then, it settled down and now, not towing, it’s negligible use. Don’t let that first hundred miles of DEF consumption scare you.
