OK, 484 miles on new truck and the "service def soon-see dealer" light came on. At dealer to see what's up. They're telling me it maybe cause I Park in a garage and the temp difference between outside causes warning. Garage is 52 and outside is -1. I live in Fairbanks, AK. Any thoughts or input. Not to worried yet just don't want a bunch of issues.

Urea in the DEF could Crystalize out into a filter or on a DEF sensor below 12 degrees F. It might not redissolve immediately when it thaws. Once the DEF starts flowing again, it might take the system some time to recognize that the problem has gone away, but it should eventually detect that that the problem is fixed. Flowing solvent (water in the def) should gradually clean up the filter and or DEF quality sensor. Agitation (stiring or flowing solvent) will help the DEF to redissolve.

If it doesn't derate, I wouldn't worry about it.

Parking outside might actually prevent it from derating. Because frozen DEF I don't think Derates it. But a continued DEF detection problem might actually derate it.

You might have them check to see if the DEF heater is working correctly? But I don't think it is operable with the switch off?

Took about 1.5hrs at dealer. Said TSB 18-072-15 may have cleared it. They weren't sure if the problem was a gelled/frozen sensor but it is fixed. Not really sure what the TSB did, but they said it addressed a lot of problems. We'll see.
