I just checked the receipts from the purchase of my last 2 batteries = 11/6/2012. I'll get new ones this weekend...
Especially with what took place today. I took a 250 mile round trip (Levittown, PA to Pittston, PA) to visit a friend's new business traveling via the PA Tpk. About 80 miles into the trip I was passing (I'm doing about 75 in a 70 zone) 3 white newer Fords following each other all with the same logo on the side, all occupants were dressed in bright yellow shirts and as I came up to the lead truck the guy increases his speed so I couldn't pass, I hate that BS. I set the Edge to kill (5/5) and eased into it pulling about 50' in front of him staying in my (left) lane, backed out of it till the boost went down then laid into it to "smoke him" and put some distance between us. As I approached 90 or so I noticed there was a slight bucking (hard to explain) I stayed into it till around 100 and pulled into the right lane. Obviously, the lead dork was about a ½ mile back and stayed there. I resumed my 75 mph and as I was coming up on a slow tractor trailer I planned on passing I looked in my mirror noticing dork boy was trying to catch up to me and lock me in behind the tractor (yeah a real butt wipe), I had plenty of time to signal and move into the passing lane and gradually lay into the go pedal to smoke dork boy again, guess he likes it??? Anyhow, I saw a rest stop coming up in a mile so I decided to pull in. I parked and was letting the EGTs drop to 300* before shut down and noticed the check engine light (CEL) UGH! I shut down and went in. 15 mins later or so I start up and the CEL was still present, everything was well and she ran perfect the remainder of my trip to my friend's new business. I spent about 6 hours with my friend and around 2PM hit the road home, CEL still there, still running fine. I stopped about 70 miles from home and when I got back on the road noticed the CEL was gone. Got home, read codes, there were 2, both were P0253 which the code reader described as "Injection Pump Metering Control Low A". There are many threads on codes and some specific to this P0253 with many variances on "what it is/could be". I decided to try my luck and sent Cummins an email request for their thoughts. I'll await their reply within 24 hours, of course I won't be holding my breath... My VP is approaching 10 years old and has been "tapped" via a stealth cover since initial install. I'll check for chaffed wires, read the APPS, adjust if needed, but I'm sure I enclosed the tap wire in plastic loom, we'll see...
