Has anyone thought about using this new offering from Chevron. It is a CK-4 CES 20086 rated oil and is low in ash which they claim will lengthen DPF service intervals by 2-1/2 times. I will probably never put enough miles on my vehicle to have to worry about this but I want to try some. I’m still running the factory fill so I’m trying to locate some oil. I spoke with a distributor in Houston and she is going to contact Chevron to see if she can get a 3 gallon case for me.

I just received a quote. The 5 gallon pail is $28.33 per gallon and the 3 gallon case is $44.06 per gallon. There is no shipping as there is a distributor nearby for Suncoast resources.

I guess that isn't terrible. I just looked at the Valvoline Premium Blue I ordered twice is now $100 with tax on Amazon.

Cool sounding stuff. I have a new Kenworth T880 on the way that gets way more miles than my pickup and will be parked in a heated shop when not in use (unlike my pickup) so cold temperature starts will negate needing 5W-40. If this oil does what it says it'll do, it will be significant.

Sounds promising. Maybe when the price comes down. Last change was Delo Synthetic at just under $12/gal with rebate.

Interesting that the TBN is only 7.

I though it was the reduced sulfur content that allowed for lower TBN on CJ and CK oils vs CI, but most the CK oils I've looked at are ~10 TBN.

I always wanted 70's KW C500 for a project truck.... Lose a rear axle, shorten the frame and put a nice 7' aluminum stake side bed on it.

Can be ordered online from O’Reilly’s

Have you been using this oil? 10w/30 appears to be hard to come by. I have only seen Shell on the shelf in synthetic blend, no full synthetic or conventional.

Would somebody explain to me what motor oil has to do with the DPF?

Motor oil can get into the cylinder(s), be burned, and any ash coming through the exhaust can reduce the ability of the DPF to burn out the accumulated soot.

Motor oil can get into the cylinders through the intake via EGR, and through blow by past the cylinder rings. Blow by through the cylinder rings happens more when the engine is cold (especially in the winter in some cooler climates) before the pistons/rings fully expand to operating temps.
Cummins says it is normal for engines to use 1 quart every 1000 miles. However, I think most of us in warmer climates don't see any noticable oil consumption because as a bit of fuel and soot get into the oil, it keeps the volume of oil in the crankcase about the same.

Attached are two Blackstone test reports. One has two sample tests on it. One test is the oem fill and the second test on that same sheet is DELO 600 ADF 10w30.

Blackstone offered to test a virgin sample of DELO 600 ADF 10w30 and that is the other test sheet.

The TBN is shockingly low, thou it starts very low at 7. That second sample was done at only 9K miles, and really beyond done based on Cummins published oil requirements. Cummins recommends "2.5 number minimum or half new oil value or equal to total acid number (TAN)".

The reason for the price is to pay for the marketing and advertising. Seventeen years with Chevron Marketer (not owned by Chevron). We sold Shell and Conoco Phillips, also. They all produce their benchmark testing done by 3rd party labs that show that their product is superior. You decide what you think is superior (we all know where the oil treads are and where they go).

I ran Delo 400 for probably 15 years. Then, I switched to Guardol Syn-Blend and I feel that the engine runs smoother and I got a small (perhaps 0.5 -1.0mpg??) increase in fuel mileage. Also holds higher oil pressure under all conditions. So, I have stayed with it.

With that said, the dogfood that I feed my hunting dog may not work well for yours. I know that we all get loyal to certain products and to that I say, good! Go with what you like and that you feel is the best and fits your budget. BUT! don't forget to drain the oil and change filters.
