TRYING TO HELP - by DENNIS MILLER

ALL THE RHETORIC ON WHETHER OR NOT WE SHOULD GO TO WAR AGAINST IRAQ HAS GOT MY INSANE LITTLE BRAIN SPINNING LIKE A ROULETTE WHEEL. I ENJOY READING OPINIONS FROM BOTH SIDES BUT I HAVE DETECTED A HINT OF CONFUSION FROM

SOME OF YOU.

AS I WAS READING THE PAPER RECENTLY, I WAS REMINDED OF THE BEST ADVICE SOMEONE EVER GAVE ME. HE TOLD ME ABOUT THE KISS METHOD ("KEEP IT SIMPLE,STUPID!) SO, WITH THIS AS A THEME, I'D LIKE TO APPLY THIS THEORY FOR THOSE WHO DON'T QUITE GET IT. MY HOPE IS THAT WE CAN SIMPLIFY THINGS A BIT

AND RECOGNIZE A FEW IMPORTANT FACTS.

HERE ARE 10 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN VOICING AN OPINION ON THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE:

1) OUT OF PRESIDENT BUSH AND SADDAM HUSSEIN ... HUSSEIN IS THE BAD GUY.

2) IF YOU HAVE FAITH IN THE UNITED NATIONS TO DO THE RIGHT THING KEEP THIS IN MIND, THEY HAVE LIBYA HEADING THE COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND IRAQ HEADING THE GLOBAL DISARMAMENT COMMITTEE. DO YOUR OWN MATH HERE

3) IF YOU USE GOOGLE SEARCH AND TYPE IN "FRENCH MILITARY VICTORIES," YOUR REPLY WILL BE "DID YOU MEAN FRENCH MILITARY DEFEATS?"

4) IF YOUR ONLY ANTI-WAR SLOGAN IS "NO WAR FOR OIL," SUE YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR ALLOWING YOU TO SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS AND ROBBING YOU OF THE EDUCATION YOU DESERVE.

5) SADDAM AND BIN LADEN WILL NOT SEEK UNITED NATIONS APPROVAL BEFORE THEY TRY TO KILL US.

6) DESPITE COMMON BELIEF, MARTIN SHEEN IS NOT THE PRESIDENT. HE PLAYS ONE ON T. V.

7) EVEN IF YOU ARE ANTI-WAR, YOU ARE STILL AN "INFIDEL!" AND BIN LADEN WANTS YOU DEAD, TOO.

8) IF YOU BELIEVE IN A "VAST RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY" BUT NOT IN THE DANGER THAT HUSSEIN POSES, QUIT HANGING OUT WITH THE DELL COMPUTER DUDE.

9) WE ARE GOING TO LIBERATE THEM.

10) WHETHER YOU ARE FOR MILITARY ACTION OR AGAINST IT, OUR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN OVERSEAS ARE FIGHTING FOR US TO DEFEND OUR RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT. WE ALL NEED TO SUPPORT THEM WITHOUT RESERVATION.

I HOPE THIS HELPS.

I don't mean to start another war here, but I think Martin Sheen could probably do a better job in the oval office. He's been playing the neation's leader on TV longer than Bush has been in office. Do the math. Other than that, it's a good list.

skobylenski:

Playing the nations leader and leading a nation are entirely two different things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO THE MATH

Again, I wasn't trying to start a war here, but let me clarify...

Martin Sheen has been "in office" for quite a few years now, and if you watch, they actually do things pretty close to the way things are typically done in the White House. I am aware that running the nation and pretending to run the nation are COMPLETLY different, but at the same time they are similar because of the fact that the topics for the episodes are taken from current events (like the police shows - Law & Order, NYPD Blue, etc, etc... ) and they deal with the problems in ways that actually happened, so, while they are just taking the headlines and turning them into something for Martin Sheen to say, they are actually CLOSER to knowing how to deal with things than most other Americans. So, as you can see, someone else needs to DO THE MATH before trying to make a point, even if the point sounds good at the time. ;)

Hope you are never in an accident and end up on the set of "ER" :-laf

I don't want George Clooney operating on me either, but I didn't mention OTHER actors doing the jobs of professionals. I was only focusing on Bush, mainly because I very strongly disagree with him and his ideas. I do, however, think the war is necessary to get the point across, but if you notice, Bush already called off one war when Osama went into hiding. I think that the same is going to happen when Saddam does the same. Of course, gas/fuel prices need to go even farther through the roof before this happens. Bush just wanted to compete with his father, follow in his footsteps. Bush senior had a war, so Bush junior wants one too. Anyway, if there's a better way to make certain you're not re-elected after 4 years, Bush is on the right track. I was in NYC over the weekend for a school trip, and we came across the protesters in Times Square - both sets - the anti-war on Saturday, and the pro-war on Sunday. It was quite a sight to see. Literally hundreds of people marching around Times Square waving huge signs and chanting, with one police officer for every 50 or so protesters. And you wonder why terrorism is such a threat - if the police didn't have to control the Americans, they could be on the lookout for other suspicious activity.

This is really getting out of hand, both here, and in the world.

West Wing..

If the writers and actors on TV screw up bad the show gets

cancelled. If the President and his advisers screw up real bad

a lot more than a TV show gets cancelled, maybe you shouldn't

get your reality from TV.

First off, Hammrhead, I'd suggest you get with the times. NOBODY said ANYTHING about Clinton and being the next Jesus, so I'm not really sure where that came from. As for the gay marriages, if it bothers you, then I feel sorry for you. Just ignore it, and it doesn't seem too bad. I don't know where you're from, but when was the last time you saw two men or women kissing passionately on the sidewalk? My guess is you've passed numerous homosexual people in your life and just thought is was two friends walking down the street. BTW - the next time I see you walking with a male friend in downtown where-ever, should I think of you as you'd think of me walking down the street with a male friend? Sorry, but I'm not like that, and neither are literally millions of other people in this world.

This is getting hostile, and I'd like to be the first to apologize to Steve if he thinks this thread needs to be closed.

Yeah, especially if he had trouble staying in character. He might forget his lines and rip your heart out with his bare hand.

If he IS serious, I am really scared!!

DAB - you seem to be pretty serious against me. It's only an OPINION, damn it, and it looks like we don't agree with this one. Last I checked, opinions are still legal in all 50 states and Canada.

merryman - why? And if you want me to see what was deleted, why don't you PM me, and we'll take care of it there.

Everyone else - its only an OPINION damn it! Lay off a little.

Careful

Be careful, if these guys smell blood, they come in for the kill. I should know, I know you have all seen that one chicken that has all his tail feathers missing!:D

I guess some people will stand up for what they believe in after all. I personally think Bush is one the best leaders that we have ever had. He stands up for what he believes in instead of letting a group of Liberals and anarchists in the minority decide what he stands for. Besides that I would hate to live in a country where the leader was getting by with murdering people and no other country would help. Saddam has gassed his own people and stuck them feet first in wood chippers while they were still alive. If we don't belong over there we don't belong anywhere. With the help Saddam was getting from Russia it would have been only a matter of time before he had a nuclear weapon that he and Bin Ladin would have fired at us. Being passive and saying it's not my problem is not the fix for anything. We have been under attack since 1979 when the American embassy was attacked in Tehren. The USA just now has a Leader who is tired of it and is going to finish it. Our trade centers were bombed before and nothing was done about it. The bombing of the USS Cole is considered an act of war but we did nothing again. The embassy in Beirut is another example of where our leaders did nothing. The US Embassy in Kuwait is another. All of these events led up to the Trade Centers on 9-11 but we still have protestors out there saying we don't belong. I guess we should just let the Terrorists overrun us and live in fear the rest of our lives. :-{}

Bush is the best President of my lifetime. From 1968.

If he wasn't fighting socialists in congress, and terrorists everywhere else, he could have really got some good things done the last two years.

Despite all of that, the country is still pulling out of the Clinton/Gore recessesion that he inherited.

I highly doubt Martin Shcmuck could change is shorts after an accident, without help.

Where would we be if Gore became President? Well we would be filing protests with the useless UN while Iraq purchases nuclear technology from Russia and smuggles it into the US. Bush has the guts to take care of the problem now before it gets to the point where it costs us millions of dead Americans. I voted for Bush the first time and will again. Support our troops, they are out there dying so we can sit safely at home and type our opinions on the net, no matter what those opinions may be.
