DeWalt 1/2 Electric Inpact Tool

Ok call me stupid but I bought a 1/2 Dewalt with hog ring retainer on the anvil instead of the standard push in button like most socket wrenches have. I come home and my regular 1/2 drive will not fit so of coarse being of the male species I push harder now it goes on but of coarse I can,t get the DDDDm thing off now. The directions tell me nothing. Whats up ? Do I need the other kind of anvil and how do I get this socket off? Any ideas? HELP

Use a pry bar between the socket and the impact.



the ring does require some breaking in and can tend to be a pain in the ***. I took mine off of my 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4 drive ingersols.

the sockets will fall off but they do not stick on there any more.

Make sure that you use black impact sockets, not the chrome plated type. The hammering action will chip the chrome off at high speed and get you. Non-impact sockets also tend to deform and get stuck on both the anvil and bolt head, I've never had that problem with impact sockets. 12 point non-impacts will also tend to crack, 6 point impacts usually don't. When I've been forced to use a non-impact and it gets stuck I pry it off with a screw driver. Bad part about this is that a good set of metric and standard impact sockets will often cost more than the impact wrench. Get deep sockets if you only get one type, they are more versatile. Be sure to always use safety glasses when using an impact, don't find out the hard way how easy an impact can break bolts and how fast they can throw nuts. Also beware of using a U-joint socket adaptor, they tend to throw the socket off at high speed.

I had the same problem with my 1" air impact. I worked on the clip, but it is a fine line to adjust it just right. Finally put a short impact extension on, still there, leave it on. Works great.

What I have done on my impact tools was take the metal ring off and put a rubber o-ring on. In needs replacing every so often, but it saves on the number of "moments" i have with the thing. Also, if you have to use a chrome non-impact socket with an impact tool, it is a good idea to wrap it with electrical tape or duct tape. Keeps things put if it decides to fly apart.

I've got the same tool except I have the little ball to retain the sockets. As long as I don't line up the hole in the socket with the ball I can remove them easily. When the ball and hole line up, I either have to pry it off or get a small nail to push on the ball as I slide the socket off. Great tools though. My compessor doesn't seem to have enough flow for impact wrench use. The electric is great!
