Trailer tire question

safe towing upgrades

Would like some information on anyone useing the Dexter Nvr/Lube axles. I replaced my Hayes axles to Dexter, They are suppose to go 100,000 miles without lubrication compared to regular bearings. . Three years now and no problems so far. These have a sealed bearing.

Would appreciate hearing from others that have this set-up. The new Alpenlite trailers have these but no indication from anyone of their service.

Thanking all.

I have an 04 Hillcrest Alpenlite with the Nvr5/Lube axles. Love em. No problems. As far as Alpenlite goes, you can't go wrong with an Alpenlite. I have had two of them and for the buck, I believe they are the best engineered 5th wheel on the market.

Our Mobile Suites (see signature) has the NevRLubes. They're working out great so far - no problems whatsoever.

Thanks for the reply. Was just wondering how long these last before PM. Its nice not to have to grease same every year. Three years on these now. They are very large bearing packs. If the seals stay good, no reason that they will give trouble. Have had excellant luck with our Alpenlite.

Dexter Never Lub Axles

Had mine installled in 2001 best thing I ever did. Had the whole Mor/ride thing installed. If the Never Lub run warm you might need to check alignment. If they smoke you have a problem. This is the word I got from Dexter. As far as miles go on the Never Lub goes It is about time to replace the tires that were new at the time of the Axle change over. TOW ON and keep your tire pressure up

Why if a car can go 50k miles and years on grease bearings does a trailer need to be re-lubed every year/10k miles. Granted I would rather do some preventative maintence but that sounds excessive.

DaveK, I've always wondered that too. For a boat trailer that goes in the water I can understand, but just on the road it never made much sense to me either. I've never seen a really good answer. I know a guy (He's a farmer and does not believe in a lot of maintenance) that hauled the same fifth wheel for 15+ years and never lubed the bearings! Now that's excessive! He thought I was nuts to lube every year. I asked about his brakes and he said he did adjust them from time to time but never pulled a wheel and since it was almost all highway miles they didn't wear much. He got a new fifth wheel in 1998 and hasn't lubed that one yet either. Go figure...
