I want to buy some Diamond Plate Side Steps with bed extensions and matching splash guards. The dealer wants full retail for them $718. 00, and he wants to install them for another $400. 00.

Is there a place were I can get them cheaper. Or is there another company that sells a high quaility running board similar to the one offered by dodge.

Second question how hard is it to install the dodge running boards

Thanks

Rick

Beware of the Dodge diamond plate boards. I had a set on my '03 and the rear extensions were a little different color than the front section (the silver was yellowed). They were very difficult to get straight on the truck. The rear section was not strong enough to support my weight without bending (I weigh 190 lbs). I would not use them again. There are probably better boards out there. Just my two cents

I just put a set of the Dodge diamond plate running boards on... they must have upgraded them as I weigh about 190 & the back boards don't flex at all that I can tell!

My boards match fine... but the first set of rears the dealer had to reorder because they found the box had been dented in transit & they said that one board was scratched... . so I did my fronts first and rears later.

Paid somewhere in the area of $500-600 total from the dealer for front & backs for the 04. 5 dually, including the diamond plate splash guards (I think the rears are included in the kit).

You have to drill a couple of holes and having an angle drill & a short bit will help. Took a couple of hours per side, including painting the holes so they won't rust later, but I'm really slow.

The instructions were minimal, but the brackets are strong & well made & I think that the boards look great. Sure makes a difference reaching in the back of the truck & so far no stone chips!

I did it by myself, bad back and all... . first time I have ever installed running boards & although I was really slow, the labor was free & I didn't make any mistakes!!!

All in all, if you like the looks, I think they are a pretty good set of boards. However you might open the boxes & check them before taking delivery, as they are imported & maybe the quality control isn't the best, mine were fine though... Good luck with whatever you choose!

I had my dealer install a set of DeeZee "Brite Tread" boards on my truck as part of the purchase. I took the truck to a local camper store (DFW Camper Corral) and the dealer paid the tab.
