Just wondering,,,did BD copy the DSS bar or did they make somekind of arrangement with DSS,,,i can't believe a big company would steal a members invention,,

I have the DSS and have seen the BD. You only need to change a part by 15% (if I remember correctly) to avoid a lawsuit. I can tell you that BD's is built like a very cheap knock off of DSS. One look at the two side by side and the choice is clear

Why dosen't it suprise me that the BD is cheap built,,seems like they do that a lot. .
I know i will NEVER buy ANY BD products now,,,any big company like that who stoops so low as to steal a man idea is pretty low to me,,,especially snice BD has been around this site for so long,,they should have know better than to pull something like that,,if they had made arrangement with him on it,,that would be different,,,
The DSS guy saw a problem with our trucks and made a fix,,and was nice enough to make some available to the rest of the members at a very reasonable price i might add,,and extremely well built... hell,,the lady EVEN sent me one to try BEFORE asking for payment,,they din't know me from a hole in the wall,,,do you think BD would EVER do that,,,
Hope everybody on here will think about this when they need one of those stabilizer bars,,,buy the original DSS,,,

just the same as lazersmiths design . knockoff to me and i really dont like the way it looks. but hey someone builds something great and others want to try to get a piece of the pie.

FOR sure, the DSS original is a good unit, and a no-brainer addition to these trucks - as to the cheaply built knock-off copy by another vendor - just file that away for future reference on later business dealings - it may well be a valuable indicator of the way the REST of their stuff is as well... ;)

Chuck,

I'll try this one. I believe it is known as DSS, Dodge Steering Stabilizer. The output shaft on the steering gearbox on the older trucks and trucks with 4X4 have a frame mounted steering gearbox and the output shaft "wiggles" from steering inputs vs. the truck. The DSS and others try to stabilize the shaft with a frame mounted bracket and pillow block stabilizer bearing on the output (pitman arm) shaft making steering more controlled.

I guess the powers that be at BD never tought past the mighty $$$$,,they stealing a man idea and producing an inferior cheap copy,,might not be goos for buisness,,,
I for one will never buy BD anything. .

Dss

It stands for Darins Steering Stabilizer. I have one and it saved me from having to replace the steering box. I have had it over 3 years now.

This is just one of the reasons I bought the Defiant Steering Box support.

I believe to be more then a knock-off of the DSS, an actual new design to solve the same problem. It is also extremely well designed, well made, well finished and well packaged. However, if I hadn't bought the the Defiant, I would have bought the SSI instaed of the BD, if that matters... .

Here is a link to the Defiant;

Paul, who makes them, is extremely knowledgable about our trucks and willing to problem solve.

I too don't like it much when someone robs another persons good idea either. It gives me a bad feeling about their integrity unless it is a licensed product.

Talking about the company that makes DSS products. I just installed the Darins track bar retrofit mount and used a 2003 track bar. I didn't think my track bar was loose until I drove with the new setup. All I can say is, wow, what a difference. It was just as good a mod as the DSS steering box stabilizer.

I've had both of Solid Steels products in my truck for well over 4 years now and its been the best mod. The DSS and 03 TBK are the only way. Back when I did the 03 TBK, I had to buy a new track bar from Dodge as they were not out yet. :-laf

OK, guys the link above is to Marv's site. The ORIGINAL Darin's SS came for SolidSteel. biz - Home of the Dodge Steering Stabilizer and we will not talk about who ran away with whom!

BD and the others that stole the design stand way behind the first one that did that.

My son ordered an ATS 3 piece exhaust manifold from Randys off road who ordered from BD. They sent a BD manifold instead, it was a horrible casting so we sent it back and ordered an ATS. Same story with the DSS vs the BD stabilizer. They also have knocked off the 3rd gen track bar retro for the 2nd gen trucks. I have the adjustable 3rd gen trackbar, and steering stabilizer by solid steel with a Red Head 3 turn steering box and my trucks drives like my 90 corvette!

Snoking, thanks for the correction. I wasn't aware of anything between SSI and the weblink I posted. Can you explain the difference between SSI and Windeckers'. I wasn't aware of this.

Thanks,

Gene

has anyone here had terrible customer service with solid Steel(ie Russel).
I ordered my 3rd gen track bar kit from him about a two years ago, no big problem but it took me 2 weeks to just get a hold of him, then another month for him to ship out.
About 8 months ago, I was looking for a steering brace.
I was very pleased with his track bar kit so It was a no brainer to order it from him.
This time it took me about 3 weeks to get ahold of him, leaving numerous voice mails and such. He finally called me back and told me he plenty in stock and would ship one out tomorrow for me. A month later still no DSS! Called him a numerous times left him many voice mails and no call back or anything. Worst customer service ever.

Call Harry at peak diesel they have what you want and great service!
