I have a 2005 2 WD truck and it has a front air dam. I also just bought a 1994 reg cab and I would like to get a front air dam, I bet it might help with mpg (although it gets good mpg already) Did they come stock or as a option?

My current '03 3500 4x2 dually has an air dam under the front bumper that was standard when I ordered it. I don't recall whether or not there was an air dam on either my '97 or '00 3500 4x2 dually trucks. I don't think you would ever recover the cost in fuel savings. It might help the air flow through the radiator, but otherwise I think it's probably more cosmetic than effective. However, it does catch a lot of bugs!

They were available as an option if I remember correctly. It seems to me that I could have chosen one when I ordered my '01 but didn't.

My 96 2wd has one. Don't know its origins, but the PO notched it for the tow hooks. So I don't know if it was a factory-installed air dam and the hooks were added later, or vice-versa. I have the window sticker; I'll update this later if I have any further light to shed.

Since LMC is mentioned above, I'll add a note about my recent experience there. They generally don't tell you the brand or origin of their parts. One might assume they are an assortment of aftermarket items, and since they're unbranded, you might even assume the worst - no-name made in China. And maybe you could be correct. I debated with myself on ordering factory tag light socket assemblies or LMC items and finally settled on LMCs. So what did I find in my LMC box? Factory tag lights! YMMV.

Yes it only came as an option for 2nd Gen trucks, regardless if it's 4x2 or 4x4. As I recall it was something like $28. I've owned 3 2nd Gen 4x2s and every one had an airdam.

Not sure that the air dam will have an effect on mpg. I haven't run the stock bumper in a while, swapped out for a big heavy custom built steel bumper that is about as aerodynamic as a barn door and saw absolutely zero change in fuel mileage. Just something to think about.

My 2002 2WD 3500 came with a air deflector, it was option code MXB. Most pickups receive a 1mpg increase with the bumper air deflectors.

yep, they offered one with cutouts for the factory tow hooks and one without. I retro'd the tow hook kit and an air dam on my '99 last year - looks great. :)

When I bought my 96 3500 4 wheel drive it had a air dam on it. Was 3 years old when purchased. I fitted a Furd tow loop to the frame end and cut the air dam to fit. Provides a full loop instead of a hook.

My 95 2wd has had one since new, came like that from the dealer. My best mpg was 24mpg empty at 70-75 mph if that helps you compare mileage.

I bought my '06 used and the air dam was probably at the bottom of a mud puddle in South Louisiana where it had been hauling livestock. When I put the Ranch-Hand brush guard on, I figured the front end and the mounting of the brush guard would look a little goofy without the air dam. Found a replacement from CARID for about $70 including UPS charges that was made in I think Taiwan that has given good service. And, I think the addition of the air dam helped the overall esthetics.
