I finally did the front brakes on my '93 D350. The old pads weren't that bad, but stopping power just hasn't been that great lately.

So I pulled everything off, rotors were still in pretty good shape, so I scuffed them up with a sanding disc on my angle grinder to get them ready for new pads. Put a little grease on the caliper slides and put in the Performance Friction pads from Auto Zone. Bleed system 'till clear fluid comes out -- ready for reassembly.

Got everything put back together, wheels torqued down -- time for a test drive!

Wow!! These pads are much better than the old ones that were on there. Maybe my rotors were just glazed, but my stopping distances have probably dropped 20%.

Very happy with these pads after a weekend's worth of driving and hauling the horses.

OK, maybe it's weird being excited about a brake job -- but I figured you guys would understand!! :D

Cheers

Yes it is weird.

But yes, we understand!!

:D

Just think of how excited you'd be if you did the rears also!!

I second the performance friction pads. I put them on about 6 months ago when I put all new rotors and calipers on. They do make a lot of difference. I jsut hope they hold up.

I've heard the PF pads don't last quite as long as others, but that they are easier on the rotors -- I'm all for that! Hopefully they are. Much rather do pads than rotors.

I got 35K or so out of the PF pads on Mom's 92 one summer- GCVW of right around 16K on a daily basis.

After fighting with my 92 W250, I can understand being excited about new brakes and being able to stop well. Think I need new rears on mine- they have plenty of life left, but they are 2 years old, and are starting to chip and flake. Time for EGRs. Oo.
